Via Napoli on the dining plan

We are planning to eat dinner at Via Napoli and will have the dining plan. I have read there is some confusion or it's difficult to order when you are on the plan. Is that true? Any advice? It will just be myself with my four kids so don't want to run into a huge hassle if we don't have to. They LOVE pizza so I am really looking forward to it! :-)

No confusion - but everyone has to order something using their DDP credit. No sharing of credits, i.e. getting one pizza for 2 people using only 1 credit - that's the only issue. I think their pizza is fabulous!

I believe you can get a larger pizza to share, but it will use multiple credits. So a pizza for 3 people would use each of their TS credits against the pizza.

I think that's where people get confused.

That must be new then because they didn't used to allow that. :confused3

specifically post#3.

I've heard it both ways. A friend who got back said she and her spouse were able to order a pizza using 2 TS credits (one for each of them) but couldn't share with their kid, who needed to use his own TS credit on a kid meal. I've also heard that the best bet if you're on DDP is to pay out of pocket. If you buy a big pizza, the OOP on it per person isn't bad, you don't have to navigate the silliness of the variable rumors of the dining plan, and you can share however you want.

The latter part is what makes the most sense to me.

VN is strict when using dining credits. Anyone using credits has to order their own main dish. You cannot share meaning you cannot use 1 credit to feed 2 or more people. If ordering pizza you can only order the personal size and you cannot combine credits to order a larger size. If you choose the Build it Yourself pizza a dining credit covers just the basic pizza and any additional toppings are paid out of pocket. You can also use credits to order any of the other entrees on the menu.

Once in a while someone will post that another restaurant or server would not allow sharing, but at most Table Service restaurants where you order from a menu you can share. It is a good way to save credits for a 2 credit meal, additional meals or if someone isn't very hungry or has a small appetite.

I would not count on this. Occasionally someone has posted that they were able to combine credits for a larger pizza, but more often people have said they were not allowed to do this.

Edited to add: At this point it sounds like your friends had a nice server who allowed it. If it is a new policy at VN we will see more posts about it, but in the meantime I would assume it was an exception.

I totally agree with you there!

how recently were you able to do this?

As I said: Not me, but a friend who went the first part of October said she was able to do so.

My understanding is that Via Napoli isn't Disney-owned (it's managed by someone else). So this probably explains the wildly inconsistent experiences on the DDP.

Correct, VN is owned by the Patina Group. The third party restaurants are reimbursed by Disney according to the rules of the dining plan so they tend to be more strict with the rules. For example, you can get milk shakes, smoothies and some other non-alcoholic beverages at some of the Disney owned restaurants, but not at the third party places because these are not covered by the dining plan. It is why the Italian sodas and Aqua Frescas are not included at VN although they are non-alcoholic.

We ate at Via Napoli on Friiday and we each had to use 1 TS Credit for an individual pizza.

This is incorrect. You can only get individual pizzas.

Thanks everyone! I might still be confused. I really don't want to pay OOP because I am already paying for the dining plan, ya know? Shoot. Maybe we'll just go and cross our fingers! :yay:
