VH Glitch??

Hi

I just rang them. They said its a mistake on the website and that I have 2 options. Cancel at no charge or pay the real price £2100. I said very little only that I would need to speak to my husband and take some advice.

Thanks for the PM. I will have a good read of the site you reccommend next. I have also posted on Martins Money in the hope that someone can give me some advice.
 
Good luck with this! I would try the - meet me half way route ( ie. split the difference in cost) plus I wouldn`t cancel until I was forced to.
I don`t think you`ve much of a leg to stand on - but appealing to their best nature might work.
 
When you said you'd have to speak to your OH and seek advice.
Did they give you a timescale of how long you had to decide was it 7 days?

No timescale given, I asked if there was a time limit and she said as soon as possible. I've had a look at a few sites inc the recc one and I think that the terms and conditions (see Londondude's post) will ultimately allow them to win. Even though I had an email confirmation it also says its subject to snailmail confirmation.
I will hold off making a final decision untill I see if anyone else can get a good result.
 
I made use of the glitch too. Just got off the phone with them for the second time. They said there is absolutely no way they can budge on the retail price, they will not meet half-way and will not honour the original booking. The woman said that the terms and conditions on the website state clearly that prices are subject to change in case of technical faults, so legal advice would be a waste of time. I just cancelled. Oh well, it was worth a shot! :)
 
Wonder if "technical faults" include typo's. Assume thats what happened since the £199 now appears as £1099.
I expect to give in and cancel in the next few days, but it was nice to think I might have been going and I'm not too disappointed.
 
I am still going to speak to CAB,I'm not fussed if we dont get anywhere but I still like to think I tried.

And you have a good point was it a technical error cause also to me it looked like a typo error considering they had just put the 2009 prices live.
 
Have they given you a link to the t&c's. How is it worded?
Thru past experience every major company now has clauses in there for errors, depending on how costly the error is some will let it go but if its £1,000's they won't do it.
I had a quick look at t&c's but couldn't find it.
 
Something similar happened to us a couple of years ago in the preview brochure, also for the Dolphin. They had worded the 2 free nights offer in a way which read 2 extra nights free for early booking (14 for 10) but didnt say it had been included in the price, so we took another 2 nights off our calculations. When we rang, the 1st operator said no, tried again next day, again no, finally wrote to VF club then after a week recieved a call to say they would honour the wording as a goodwill gesture. Saved a lot. 2nd week was free. Wording was changed in brochures after that. Now states free nights are included in price shown. If you get no joy might be worth writing to FV club

Also if alot of people get together, who booked in the same circumstanses, you can try and fight that way.
There was a hotel in Orlando that offered rooms for a glitch price, alot of people of the Disboards booked and the prices were honoured. Might be worth asking on the budget board - see if anyone remembers.
Shame them into giving you the deal :rolleyes:
 
Ive just been through them also quickly I cant see anything regarding pricing technical errors? but I might have missed it I have one bouncing 2 year old showing off her drawing skills.Will have to have another look later.
 
Ive just spoken to virgin and yep just like everybody else i have 2 options book and pay full price or cancel!!! but im really :mad: cos i been looking into a family holiday for barbados oct 2008, the 2 options i had were v.h or b.a holidays, but after getting this cheap deal i decided to tell the whole family (20 adults and 10 kids)to book via virgin holidays, now they are not going to hounor this orlando deal, i want to cancel the lot.... but the cust service agent said sorry i u will lose ur deposit on ur barbados trip :mad: im angry cos i only booked barbados with them cos i thought they would do houner the deal, so been told to call customer service supervisor on monday , lets hope they change there minds :worship:
 
I benefitted from an Expedia glitch a couple of years ago. I booked a villa that had a special offer advertised as pay for 6 nights - get the 7th free but it was actually calculated as pay for 1 night, get the next 6 free.

They honoured it :thumbsup2

you can carry your deposit over to another year! they hold the deposit for you so you wont have to lose it, we did that a few years back
 
See when the computer glitch didnt put our car insurance on we had to ring Virgin up! they said that was a glitch and they wouldnt honour our insurance,DP rang twice! in the end we went to CAB who told us to write to Virgin which we did and it got honoured. That was a computer glitch also.
So.....we might not have a leg to stand on but you never know!
