VGF2 vs Riviera under March incentives

This is the same dilemma I am currently having. We currently own 200 Riv and 100 VWL BR but are going to sell the 100 BR and add on 200 points at either RIV or VGF 2. We really love RIV, but like to do split stay with 2-3 nights on magic kingdom side.

At first I thought we would just do 200 points at VGF2 but I think we really need closer to 300 at RIV if we want to do a 2 bedroom for 4-5 nights. Then if we split stay with GF we could do a resort or deluxe studio for 3 nights. So I was then thinking 100 RIV and 100 VGF2, but that shortchanges us on the incentives.

So now I have circled to maybe just adding 200 at RIV and then taking our chances at 7 months with getting a studio at VGF or Poly for a split stay.

UGH this makes me feel crazy! I have gone around and around between these options……

That does seem tough. I'm would think the studios wouldn't be too hard at VGF since there are so many, but we don't know what will happen.

Too bad the incentives aren't the same at both because then I think they would let you get them as if you were purchasing 200 pts at either. They did this when they had incentives at CCV + RVA simultaneously, but the incentives were the same so that's why it worked.

In the end I would say that the bigger cost over time is dues rather than initia buy-in, so if you'd be happier with 100 + 100 do that?

If you are thinking about resale value, go with VGF. VGF will be more attractive to a prospective purchaser because it can be used anywhere but RIV whereas upon resale, RIV can only use used at RIV.

This just depends on when you are going to resale. Remember VGF has shorter lifetime and restrictions could be lifted at any time for resale. I think as you get closer to expiration for VGF, you'll see RIV get closer or better. If restrictions go away, watch out!! Points go farther at RIV for sure

My vote is also Riviera. Can only book standard if owning there, so the points go a bit further. The rooms also are the nicest on property right now imo. However, the walking path to MK is hard to beat. But then I would go BLT for walking proximity to MK... so Riviera lol
Not really relevant to the decision, but have to say that even though the walk from the BLT to the MK is a bit shorter than the one from VGF, the VGF walkway is much more pleasant. The BLT path goes through a portion of the parking lot, has a traffic light (busy street to cross), & passes by lots of stinky buses. VGF path walk goes along the lake, passes some lovely landscaping, crosses an interesting bridge across a canal and finally, goes by the MK boat docks. We noticed several varieties of birds along the way, too. Very peaceful & quiet walk that goes by quickly.

I would go with RIV is doing the new studios for a few nights would work. I didn’t think they would for me, and now I realize that we could do them for a few nights if need be. I would get two connecting…a request..if we couldn’t get the two bedrooms when we needed them.

But, being able to get SV at RIV is important to use to capitalize on the points chart there.

I just think 7 months at studios are not going to be really hard but there are also MK area resorts as back up.

Agreed. The VGF walk, though longer, is nicer. We enjoyed it during our late 2020 stay there.

Is that a possibility that the RIV resale restrictions could be removed?

Yes. The Riv POS contains language that would allow Disney to remove the restrictions (at their discretion).

The likelihood of that ever happening is debatable.

Just a word of warning re the walkway to GF from MK. There are a ton of mosquitoes. I got 12 or 13 bites while walking one evening. Stuck to monorail after that. Have never been bitten walking to BLT. Something to be said for stinky buses and busy roads away from idyllic, mosquito infested paths if anyone else is a mosquito magnet like me. 🦟

Must be a seasonal or time of day issue. Can't say I've ever encountered that. If I had, I'd probably be right next to you waiting for the monorail or the boat launch.

I’m trying to convince myself that it was a combination of 1/ evening time and 2/ there was heavy rain several days right before we went. But right now I’m just so itchy... 😭😂

If you see someone running full speed along the walkway with a cloud of mosquitoes in pursuit, that’s likely me. 🏃‍♀️ 🦟

The uncharitable part of me immediately thought Chapek was cost cutting the mosquito prevention program. Especially since Off! was a corporate sponsor for the Epcot event.

Itchiness makes me all paranoid.

Due to recent rain makes sense.

It was hot and dryish (Is FL ever dry?) when we did the walkway several times in November. No buzzy bitey things at all.
