VGF2 Big Pine Key Bldg Resort Studio - No Microwave email Campaign

$40 will get you a brand new microwave from Walmart. Free shipping over $35. Have it delivered to the resort, use it for the week you are there (effective cost $5.71 per day), and then pass it along to another guest staying there the following week the way we used to pass along the Christmas Trees...
It works, but because the pass along system can be weird, potentially wasteful. Electronics junk is problematic.

I don’t want the microwave either
Not sure what you have against a microwave....sounds like you want a room with two queen beds and nothing else but what comes in a standard hotel room - if that is all you want, you might want to evaluate if the cost of dvc vs the cost of hotel room is cost efficient. I like the idea of the studio with two queen beds - never understood why okw was the only resort that offered that in the studio rooms. But with the idea of home away, the ability to heat up coffee or tea makes a difference, but everyone has their own opinions.

It’s about space. The kitchenette is something I do not use on vacation and that space can be used for something else.

yes I want a deluxe hotel room on wdw property that I have prepaid for.

Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Perhaps they can have some rooms as hotel rooms and others with the microwaves, but to have the entire conversion be hotel rooms might stress VGF I. I am not sure if you have children or not, but for most people the ability to warm up foods or drinks or even formula for infants creates a necessity for the microwave. I know in Vero Beach they have a hotel room option perhaps they can offer some rooms like that. Perhaps for young couples without children the streamline is preferred. But for most with kids or even elderly the simple ability to warm things up is important

why do we need to force all dvc rooms to be the same. Wouldn’t it be great if the room catalogue was diverse allowing guest to pick the type of room that meets their Needs

someone who when on vacation only wants to eat out, this is a great option

someone who wants to heat up stuff in the nuke can go to a different resort or compete for vgf1

someone who wants to cook meals can get a 1 or 2 bed

lots of options to meet different needs.

dvc is changing. The demographics of dvc is changing. The future of Disney is not what is was two years ago.

just like the smartphone app is critical, it’s a cheaper channel to serve Disney customers, so too will dvc change and I support those changes.

Maybe housekeeping could have a few small ones that you would request, like the blenders and such.

VB Inn rooms have all the kitchenette amenities.

I just sent an email. Hoping something comes of this.
Well I received an email today from Kristen Townsend , member relations for DVC. Here was her reply to my email ( which was to petition to have a microwave and real mini fridge in the new villas);

Thank you for contacting us regarding the enhancements coming to The Villas at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.

Your email has been given to me for a response, and I am currently researching with our Resort Partners to best address your concerns. Once this research is complete I look forward to personally addressing your comments. Depending on the nature of your inquiry, response time may vary.

Thank you for your patience, and I look forward to speaking with you soon.

Best Regards,

Kristen Townsend‍

So there appears to be some ongoing discussion about the lack of these amenities. Fingers crossed that no final decision has been made yet.

I suspect plugging it in just anywhere would be a problem.
Yep. I mean the rooms can take hair dryers which use a lot of amps but pretty sure Microwaves draw Even more. Maybe smaller ones don’t have that issue but I know mine at home has a dedicated circuit.
I can see someone tripping the breaker lol

Just received a second email from Kristen Townsend , Member Relations DVC, getting back to me about my concerns with the new villas not having a microwave and mini fridge.

“At this time, we do not have any further information as to what amenities may be provided in the newly refurbished Villas. Please be assured I have shared your comments with our Leadership team for careful consideration. Should you have any additional questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to us again either by replying to this email or by phone. I would be happy to assist you. “

I am taking this reply to mean nothing has been firmly decided. I encourage anyone who really wants to keep these amenities in the new villas to email Kristen Townsend. They are reading our emails and now is the time to express our concerns.

Also doesn’t a microwave require a dedicated electrical circuit?

No. We've never had dedicated electrical for any microwave. I'd hazard that most sold are counter top and are plugged into whatever outlet is closest to where it sits. In some cases hair dryers are higher wattage.

I’ve started my own campaign in staunch support of no microwave. Will share results here shortly

The thing about DVC is that your occupancy in a room is very minimal and it needs to consider a wide variety of people who also will use it. Having something you don't use is less problematic than not having something that people use and/or need.

My personal preference is to use that space for something else. This is my preference just like others prefer the microwave

to which I reply, let dvc support rooms without for those like me. Those who want a microwave should stay somewhere else

why must all rooms be the same

i shall continue to advocate loudly for more rooms without microwaves

I didn’t realize having a microwave in the room meant you were required to use it. I'm curious what you would like them to put in the space that would hold the kitchenette? Bigger closet? Bigger bathroom?

I think DVC is only doing it as a cost saving measure, but I have no intention of buying there or staying in one so it won’t ever affect me. Just as I have no intention of ever staying concierge at AKL or a grand villa anywhere, or ever going to HHI again so I see your point about having choices.

Who knows what they would have to give up in order to build a kitchenette

I’d rather keep the room space as is vs having the Microwave. eveyrthing about the new room appeals to me

2 queen beds, no wasted space on kitchenette. I don’t understand why we have to force every room to be the same then throw hissy fits when they are not. If you don’t like the room why throw a hissy fit, just don’t stay there and go somewhere else

the notion of being so entitled so as to email dvc about the lack of a microwave is laughable.

pick another room type, pick another resort but this entire thread is another version of do you know who I am.

We're talking about having a microwave at a minimum, not building a kitchenette. It said there would be a cooler. Set a microwave on top. Sorry but you're not going to get anything particularly interesting in a room as a replacement if you don't even get a microwave.
