13.5 months after going on the VGF wait list for more points, the points came available yesterday. We just bought a new home and moved, so the process/projects have me a little gunshy to commit that kind of cash right now. Sadly, we turned down the points.

Hope those points find a good home.

Sometimes things work out for the best. Wait a couple of years and you can buy resale at a discount.

I got a call from my rep back in April. They had just gotten points in my use year and I was wanting another 50 point contact (I like small contacts so I can sell easier if I ever downsize). At $180/ point, I told the rep to give me the night to think about it. In the morning when I called him to pull the trigger they were already sold.

I just sent closing docs on a 50 point resale contract in my use year at $145/pt.
Don't worry about it too much...Dvc will still be here when your ready, and with a little patience you'll find your points.

I just passed ROFR for VGF on 5/31 -- so I am not an official member yet. Question though: I was considering doing a 25 point direct purchase add-on for the sole purpose of getting the member benefits. Anyone know if it is possible to get on the wait list now for that?

Not for VGF, the wait list for points at that resort has been closed for more than a year.

For a buyin as low as 25 you will need to be a member so you'll need to wait until then. I'm not sure they are adding to the VGF wait list they closed it a while ago.

My guide told me there is no wait list anymore for VGF. I randomly called one day to inquire about the wait list. They had 50 points available there and I took them. I'm guessing they might still have one for the people who were already on it or something, since they called the OP who was on it. However, I think it is the luck of the draw when it comes to VGF. So, continually bugging a DVC guide is probably the best way to go.

Good to know.

Are you saying while there is no waitlist, if VGF points happen to be available when one calls, it can be purchased??

I don't believe waitlists are ever "closed". That's usually a line given by guides who want you to buy direct sooner rather than later in order to steer you to their "live" properties (currently PVB and AUL).

Time and time again waitlists are closed, and a day later points are amazingly available.

Since they don't seem to ever exercise their ROFR, I'm wondering if the points for properties like VGF just become available from DVD via foreclosure...which might explain why the points become available without any warning.

Possible, or they held some for some other internal purpose we don't know about and they don't need them any more. They probably do buy some back from ROFR and we just don't know about it, though. The contracts posted to this board on the ROFR threads are only a small percentage of all the resales. Someone will have to search occompt.com to know for sure.

When I searched the OCC site a few weeks ago, all of the VGF were via foreclosure or direct sales.

That is what my guide told me. He said it is first come-first serve. I tried to get more, but none were available. He said he checks every few days. I realized I would be waiting forever for more to come in my use year, so we bought resale. He supposedly has me on a personal list of his own to call if he finds out about some.

I was very adament there was no way I would take the Poly or Aulani. He simply told me there is no waitlist- at all. He didn't use the word "closed".

The bolded is helpful to me. It would be kind of a pain for me to call every few weeks to check and see if points are available. While I am not an official DVC member yet (I have just passed ROFR on a BLT contract), I am contemplating buying a small amount of points direct to access the "Membership Extras" (or whatever they are officially called). One of the reasons I am looking into VGF is the price difference between direct vs. resale is not that much (about $35 based on recent resale prices), so the premium is somewhat reasonable at 25 points. Even then, I am still not sure if it's really worth it, but that's a topic for another thread.

My guide said something very similar. Basically there is no wait list anymore, because at one point according to him it was so long that people would be waiting 2 years plus. So now it's a first come first serve. He knows I want me points, and checks periodically. He had called me at least once that points were available.

The waitlist is closed, which I guess essentially may mean "there is no waitlist" for VGF. Hearing that you can call and randomly come across some that are just sitting there waiting to be purchased is tempting, though.

I just bought 100 points at Poly on 6/3. When I asked our guide if that was the only option, because I was interested in VGF, he said I could buy there if I wanted but it was more expensive and not for as long as Poly. We ended up opting for Poly and planning to add on VGF later. So, I'm assuming there must be some VGF available.

interesting -- when I asked a guide a month ago about VGF, he said resale was the only way I could get points there.
