Hello all! Looking at buying a small contract on the monorail and have narrowed it down to VGF or Poly. Was looking for advice on which resort you all prefer out of the 2 and why. Just looking for something we may not have thought about (pro or con). Thanks in advance!!

I vote VGF (but liked Poly too!) I love that the feature pool is right there at the VGF villas as well as the spa and fitness center. I love the bubble tub in the bathroom and I love the fountain and espresso machine in the lobby. I love to go to the main hotel and listen to live musicians (piano, orchestra) playing disney songs. I love the restaurants at both but there are more to choose from at VGF. I have a family of 5 and I LOVE that I have the option of choosing a studio, 1 bed, 2 bed, or 3 bed villa which will ALL sleep 5 or more. (It gives you a lot of options if your first choice in room size isn't available and gives you options if you are short on points). I love the GIANT walk in closet at VGF in the 1 bedroom villa we stayed in last fall. I love the covered walkways outside! (I have been drenched MANY TIMES at Poly during a downpour trying to get several buildings away back to our room). I love to go to the VGF lobby and check out movies to watch on the DVD (You don't have to go to the main hotel for this) - great option for a rainy day.

Poly has cooler bars but the bars and restaurants are SO CROWDED THERE it can be difficult to walk through that lobby. Grounds are beautiful at both. (And I love that Poly is a beautiful 4-5 minute walk away from VGF). Poly has the option of better views as well but I love the standard view at VGF. If I was buying for studios only, I might have chosen Poly. Poly has better monorail access - you can walk to the Epcot monorail at TCC as well as the Magic Kingdom monorail (however we walk to TCC from VGF too!) All in all, we love our 1 bed villas at VGF and are thrilled we own there!

If you haven't stayed at both resorts, you should prior to buying. What's important to you might not even be a consideration for someone else.

VGF studios absolutely require an 11-month booking, year round. Poly, at this point, only requires 11-month bookings at certain times.

Even with 11-month windows at VGF, some owners get shut out of studios.

I don't think you'll find a small contract at VGF all that useful. There are very few studios there, and they book at the start of of the 11 month window. If you're going to spend the money on VGF, think about having enough points for a 1BR every other year at a minimum.

On the other hand, the Poly is all studios (and 14 bungalows), so getting in with a small contract is viable.

Have you considered Bay Lake Tower? While the standard view studios book quickly, one can often easily book Lake View studios even at 7 months most parts of the year.

Wanting a small contract at Poly or VGF means you likely intend to get studios. Be aware of a problem that exists with VGF. It has far too few studios (47) for the number of its owners who purchased to get studios. During DVC's high demand season which runs from late Sep to marathon weekend in Jan, VGF owners have sometimes had issues getting a studio even when booking exactly 11 months out from arrival date when owners can start booking reservations. For Fall 2016 to early 2017 reservations, the rooms many times filled within a minute after that 11 month reservation window opened online at 8 a.m. eastern and sometimes even filled before the 11 month window opened. Particularly if you might be interested in going during the middle two to three weeks of October, during the Thur-Sun periods in Nov when there is the Wine & Dine half marathon or the last weekend of Food & Wine, during the Tues-Fri of Thanksgiving week, during the first two weeks of December, during Christmas week, and during the Thurs-Sun of marathon weekend in Jan, you will have a real risk of possibly being blocked out from getting a reservation for a VGF studio even if you are an owner and try to book at exactly 11 months out. That problem does not exist at Poly and is unlikely to occur when it sells out because it has hundreds of studios.

All great responses! Thank you all! I wasn't aware that VGF had only 47 studio rooms. We will more than likely go for a small contract at poly.

I couldn't have said this better myself!!

I vote VGF. But we own there. And we book one bedrooms mostly.

Each resort is so different though. You might pick just based on which one you like better. :sunny:
