Just got an email from DVC that says VGF is going to $165/pt.....incredible. If you've been thinking about adding on there, now's the time!

Price increase is on June 24, 2014.

Aulani increases from $155 to $160 and VGF from $155 to $165.

:earsboy: Bill

I could still sell my points for more than I paid for them (direct)... something tells me that the folks who shell out these prices won't be able to say that.

I would not be so confident if you bought VGF. Most resales are at a discount from direct prices and if you use a broker they charge 10%. So you would probably lose money selling now.

If you bought 10 years ago then sure you can sell for more than you paid. Who knows what VGF will sell for in 10 or more years.

I paid $65/pt a year ago for my bwv points! Could not imagine paying $165/pt for any resort

Our last direct purchase was over 10 years ago. Even after accounting for paying commission we would come out well in the black at current ROFR prices. :goodvibes

Exactly! I looked at DVC Poly and then thought about what they would ask for the points and just laughed... there's no way I could do it. Remember way back when we all stated that there was no way DVC could sell for over $100.00/point? Boy, they sure proved us wrong. I guess I'm glad it was still a "secret" when we bought in, lol.

Wasn't BLT already priced at $165? Did they raise that one, too?

it's not the same. Are you talking VGF or a diff resort if you sold? If it's VGF you will take a loss now.

:confused3 What do you mean that it's not the same? I never stated that I owned (or desired to own) VGF. I posted that my points are still worth more than purchase price, and I don't see that happening with current sale prices. Someone else challenged me and said that they doubted that my points would be worth more, unless I bought more than a decade ago. I confirmed that this was the case. Since VGF didn't exist 10 years ago, these obviously couldn't be points at that resort. We own a decent number of points, and we may look at adding on again, but if we do, I doubt it will be direct. The price/point just doesn't work for us. It's kind of like my parents looking at what we paid for our house. We felt like we got a deal, and they thought we got robbed compared to what they paid in the 70's, lol.

You originally posted (ie bragged) in this Thread that is titled VGF going to $165 that you could sell for a profit and did not disclose what resort you bought or the date you bought. Thus, it could be implied you bought VGF for $145 ( the lowest price offered) and thought that you could sell for a profit now it is going to $165.

Why would you post about any other resort other than VGF in this thread as it has no bearing or even value to the OP.

I am glad you bought over 10 years ago and can sell for a profit but it is really irrelevant as people that bought OKW for $50 and got free passes in 1991 are probably happy VGF is $165.

That said, in 10 or 20 years maybe the newest resort will sell for $300 per point and VGF resales will sell for $200. Then people that bought for $165 will be posting what a great deal they got.

I guess it all has to do with not being able to see the tone of a post.

I am really amazed that DVC has the ability to sell direct at these prices - which is relevant to this post. When BWVs first started selling, people were amazed that people would buy into a resort with small rooms, "mile long hallways" and the "Scary Clown Pool". When BCV was sold people were surprised at the price because of the fact that it really didn't have great views and had small rooms. People always have opinions. We still bought (and currently own) at HHI, VWL and BCV. Thankfully we've been able to look past the possibility of getting wiped out by hurricanes, horrible trash can views, dark rooms, remote desolate locations and small rooms. ;)

I think that one of the incentives to buy direct used to be that it offered convenience, and the prices weren't that different. Slowly, that's all changed. The rates have more than doubled, the resale market has exploded, buying direct no longer includes closing fees. To me, this last price increase really highlights this vast gap. Most people entering into large financial deals make sure that they have an exit plan. DVC is a major purchase for most people. I know that we factored in what we thought we could get back out if we had to sell. Frankly, we never expected it to remain this much of a "deal". But with the new direct prices, it seems like DVD is making it almost impossible for new buyers to sell without taking a significant loss (not that this is DVD's goal/concern - they're in the business of selling TSs).

It's also relevant because we actually are thinking of adding on, so when I opened the e-mail this morning, I wanted to see what DVD was offering. Instead of enticing me to buy, it actually sent me over to see what was being offered by TSS.

While I 100% agree that $165 is an outrageously high price for VGF nobody knows for sure what the resale prices will be. Several years ago I had a 100 BLT and 100 VGC contract for about $100pp. I decided to give up VGC and get two 100 point BLT contracts as I was worried about VGC and did not think I would use it as much. Fast forward to today and I would be lucky to get $95 for my BLT but VGC is $135 and more in demand.

The most important difference is VGC s a small and in demand resort and so is VGF. So I would say VGF will hold its value and am go up if the prices continue to go up. Next year VGF could hit 175 or 185 per point near sell out.

Did you get this email from your guide or direct from DVD? I have never gotten an email like that, do you know how to get put on the list to receive them? We have 2 contracts, one was direct and one was resale.

I got the e-mail from my guide, but it was sent by Member Services. If I remember correctly, because it's considered a solicitation, they can only send it to certain locations. They mention Canada in the disclaimer though, so you must be able to get it some places in Canada. You may want to contact your guide or see if there is a place to add promotional mail in your profile at dvcmember.com

$165/point is ridiculous in terms of today's dollars, regardless what it may or may not be sold for in the future. So is $150. Ridiculous.

After seeing the GFV models during my trip last week, I actually want some GFV points now. That's something I thought I would never say.

It's always nice to come back home and to the boards and get a reality check from threads like this.

Will I still add-on? I don't know, but threads like this sure make you think twice.

Idk , but the last thing I was thinking was that he was referring to VGF . I actually assumed he owns an older resort and bought for less then $100 pp.

The reason is because these threads even when they are talking about a specific resort bring up comparisons to the older cheaper resorts almost every time .

IMO everyone was speculating that VGF would start sales at closer to $200 pp so going up to $165 seems to be inevitable . If you really paying attention to the prices you will see PP goes up $5 every 6 months . So just bank on that happening .

Personally if the points chart prices were more reasonable I wouldn't have a problem with the price .

I also find it funny that everyone thinks it's imposable that inflation won't effect the resale prices of these newer overpriced resorts . I don't think in ten years that it's so out there to think that resale prices will be close to what people are paying direct now . Especially with VGF look at VGC for a comparison .

Your guild will send the emails . You have to sign up your email on the DVC member site and you can add your email to the list
