VGC Condo Board Questions

Anyone here have any insight regarding the Condo board? I've been an owner for about two years now and I'm finally starting to dive into the nuts and bolts of the Association. I definitely should have done this as part of my due diligence before buying but that didn't happen so here I am. I love Disney and I'm very happy to be an owner at VGC but there are definitely some things that could be improved and I feel that as a member there should be some way to have my voice be heard in that regard.

The board appears to have one meeting a year where it talks about almost nothing and provides almost no information that is readily available to members. The board is made up entirely of Disney employees without any independent oversight. It honestly seems as though the board conducts most, if not all, major decision making behind closed doors without any member involvement.

I believe it is a member elected board in technical terms. The problem is that Disney retained voting rights proxy for all members and does so in perpetuity unless (60%?) of members elect to vote their own shares. VGC is small enough that a proxy drive wouldn’t be infeasible, just very onerous.

We bought after the COVID reopening so I’ve never experienced paying dues and being locked out. I’m definitely surprised that this stuff didn’t boil over more during that period.

You can send an email using the link on the member website. Or you can email dvcmembersatisfactionteam@disneyvacationclub.com.

Edited to add, don’t discount the power you have via that email. In 2018 when they released the original 2020 points charts, they rescinded them based on calls and e-mails from 24, yes twenty-four, members, according to Yvonne Chang, a DVC executive, in a conversation with @zavandor. (That’s why his signature includes “Proud to be one of the Notorious 24.”) There are others of those 24 still active on these boards.

Thanks Carolyn. I'll give that a try on a few things that are nagging me. However, my bigger issue is one of transparency, or lack thereof. It appears that as members we are entitled to a large percentage of the information afforded to the board members themselves but we basically get nothing. For example, there doesn't seem to be any information about the reinstatement of pool hopping or when the VGC is officially getting refurbished. In my view, having a board that is made up entirely of employees of the developer/Disney doesn't lend itself to being open and responsive to owners.

Couldn't agree more as one of those 24, and I think Yvonne told everyone she talked to it was 24 because I was fed the same line. I might add on that even though DVC was in the wrong, I stand by it 100% and they reversed it..., with those point reallocations they very much did take the time to listen, eventually with the 24 talking to one of the Execs. So an e-mail will get some level of response, even if you don't immediately recognize the response.

Edit: Overall DVC does seem to take some pride in the system being better than rest, but we as members should hold them to some definition of what better means.

I am a VGC member. There was a credit for the closing in both 2021 and 2022 dues. I don't know how many people would have wanted to stay there with parks closed. CA was pretty strict with Covid restrictions.
