Veterinary Pet Insurance (VPI)

I used to have pet insurance through this company a couple of years ago but I dropped it because I felt the routine care reimbursements just wasn't comparable to what I was paying in premiums. I have been thinking of re-enrolling in the insurance and I just wanted to know if it was worth it before I give them a call.

This past week I had a HUGE scare with my cat ingesting a toxic substance (Thank God she is OK and came home on Sunday!) and I see the insurance would've covered part of it. I'm not looking for trouble to cross us again but maybe I should enroll again (better to be safe than sorry).

We have it. It does pay if you run into some big bills, but no where NEAR what you actually pay, esp in a big-city area. We recently had a $700 and got back $300.

We signed up for this when we had to rush Monty Dog to the vet last weekend. The bill was not that bad, around $200 but at the time we were away from home visiting family and had no cash or credit cards on us. So we signed up for this to get him in.

The interest rates on this are high but they have some plans where there is no interest if you pay off the balance within 6 months or within 12 months.

In some ways, I'm glad I had no cash on me, because otherwise I would not have found out about this. I was originally just going to cancel it as soon as I got the bill and paid off the $200 at the end of this month, but after learning more about it, I think I will hold onto this for emergencies.

Granted it is not insurance, you don't get anything "back", but it is like a credit card for use only at medical/vets and good for sudden emergencies.

I have not heard that much about the insurance. Just that it's best to sign them up when they are very young because you'll never get approved for an older pet.

I'm glad your cat is okay!
