Veteran Pin Traders...Help, Please!!!

This may be a silly question, but do adults pin trade also, even those adults without kids in tow? I have never doen this, but I do own some pins I have bought just because I thought think they are neat. When I was a "too cool" teenager I would have no way been caught wearing such thing as a lanyard around my neck, btu now at the ripe age of 26 (well, in 4 weeks!), I suddenly think it might be fun. Even if I don't trade, I thought it might be fun to wear it with pins that fit my personality. Thoughts?
I did trade a few. My DD and teen DS did the majority of the trading.

Absolutely! Go for it!
I saw quite a few old men with pin lanyards and pins in their baseball hats. Anywhere else and I would have been a little concerned - but it all seems normal there. If you're worried - just put funny ears on your head - it will distract people :earsgirl: :thumbsup2

I got extremely lucky on two auctions by placing my max bid with about 30 seconds left in both auctions. Ebay incrementally adjusted the bids to amounts well below my max bid.

Sedesma pins are from Spain, have Disney on back, but are "cheaper" in appearance. You are suppose to be able to trade these pins since they have the Disney stamp, but I have read several stories on DIS where a CM was harsh with a child trying to trade one of these. Since one bad trade could ruin the experience for my kids, I avoided this type of pin.

Edit - My DW and I will probably get in on the action too. After we divided the pins among the kids, we had a few left for us.

The person I've bought most of my Ebay pins from has a "Disney pin store", his screen name is gyantzpod, he should be easy to find. All the pins I've got from him have been fab, they all seem 'real', usually I've paid about $3 each, the great part is that he charges $2.50 for the 1st pin, 50 cents for others within a 10 day period, so I usually get about 10 at a time, last time the shipping for 16 pins was only $3.50 (even less than the stated price).

I don't have anything to do with this seller, just passing on my experience. I only buy pins from him, he has a zillion on sale all the time.

Thanks guys!!

I will check them out. Sounds like Mama might have to get in on the action, too!!

I don't know, I think I have self handedly driven up the ebay pin prices

My Dh changes our paypal password regularly and I keep having to "fess up" to my purchases since I need to get the new password from him :teeth:

I keep saying, no more I have enough. His response, "you have been saying that since you hit about 70 pins, now you have how many?"
"110" I timidly squeak followed by "but, that is for 2 kids for 9 days, what about some for us?"
he  I think he has given up.

I have a friend going and our trips overlap, now I am watching ebay for her (sure, says my DH of course they are for friend)

The problem is there are some really good pins that I don't have yet and and and they could be a good deal and and and I can't stop ebaying aaahhhhh.

I am going to have to carpool to ebay anonymous with DH.

(Stands up)
Hi,
My name is Mamacat and I am a ebay/DisneyPin aholic

I haven't read through all the responses, so please forgive me I'm repeating some things!

DS7 and DD4 started pin trading on their first trip to WDW a few weeks ago. I knew that they might become interested in it, so prior to the trip I bought 4 pins for each of them. Two I ordered from disneyshopping.com for $2.99 each when they had a sale. The others I bought at the Disney outlet in Rehoboth, DE. For all of them, I made sure they were pins that I knew they wouldn't care about keeping, so they were happy to trade them for something they liked.

Since I wasn't positive about them getting into it, I waited to but the lanyards until we were in WDW (in fact, it was day 3 before they even realized there was such a thing as pin trading!). They each picked out a lanyard (I liked the children's ones, since they have a velcro closure at the bottom so they're not a strangulation hazzard). They also each selected a couple of pins to add to the ones I had bought. Of the ones they bought, there was at least one for each that I said they were not allowed to trade (because I just KNEW they would be upset later if they did!). They only ended up trading with CMs, which was fine, and they had such a great time, especially DS. DD, at age 4, didn't get into actual trading until later in the trip. It was really nice, and since both of my kids are very outgoing it gave them a great opening for interacting with CMs.

Have a great trip!!

You all have me sooo looking forward to starting!!!

Maybe we should start a 12 Step For Pin Addiction :rotfl:

Hmmm...but you can't help someone who doesn't want to be helped...Right ;)

It really sounds like a lot of fun. Just another way to suck us in to the Disney Vortex!!!

Yep, adults do trade. Just be sure to learn from the mistakes of others. I've heard stories of grown people (who should know better :sad2: ) just grabbing the lanyard of an unsuspecting CM with so much as a greeting. One CM had a guest come up from behind and attempt to unhook a tie he had loaded up with his pins. Why? he asked. She replied that she just wanted the tie! :confused3

OMG!!!

People can be unbelievable!! :confused3

Does anybody know how pin trading got started?

Missmonkey, you were up late!
