VET QUESTION......about my dog

Hi...I have a bullmastiff...6 years old. She has been losing weight....about 25lbs in a year...with really no change in her eating. I think she was a bit overweight to begin with (130-female)....anyway. I have taken her to the vet during the summer regarding this....and to me, it looks like she is still losing weight. I know...I am bringing her in tomorrow to get her checked out.

Last time, they did a bunch of blood work..etc...can't remember the names offhand...but would if they were mentioned.

The next test they want to do is for "cushing disease" which, they said was very expensive....that doesn't matter to me for the price.......But we have just been monitoring her this past month or so.

Well, another problem arose......she was leaking urine...just a tad every now and then...the vet said that sometimes is common in older big dogs...BUT.....today....she was actually leaking BIG TIME....to the point I could scoop up from a puddle (saved it for the vet tomorrow)

Anyway, my question is....what do you think it could be....I am getting VERY upset thinking it is going to be a "fatal" disease or something......I would like to get some idea before tomorrow....just to browse the net about it....I know, I shouldn't jump to conclusions....but it is really worrying us.

I'm no vet and don't know the answer, but my spade female golden mix was doing that (she was about 11 at the time it began) and the vet put her on estrogen and it stopped the urine "leakage" problem. Thank goodness. I was just wondering if your dog has been spade?

Yes....she has been spade....but I don't really think 6 is considered "old" maybe it is for the larger breed??

My spade German Shepherd began "leaking" at age 7. She has been on phenylpropanolamine for a year. She takes one pill per week and that keeps it from happening. This isn't a hormone like Estrogen (which didn't work for her), but "stimulates the secretion of norepinephrine, a hormonal substance that increases sphincter muscle tone."

I'm not sure about the weight loss - which is what would concern me more than the "leaking," which tends to happen in larger, spade, "older" (relative term - larger dogs don't live as long, so 6 is probably "older) dogs.

When our almost 11 year old Weimaraner started losing weight, he was also drinking lots of water, and ofcourse urinating frequently as well.

He had become a diabetic.

Blondie...they tested her for all of that...that is what is scary....I think it is something bad!!!!!!!!!!!!

My Mom's dog (toy poodle) used to leak urine all the time... the vet told Mom he "knicked her bladder" when she was spayed.
