My kids are wanting mp3s for christmas, especially my ds6. He is a destructive child:badpc:, so I dont want to spend much at all, but I think he would like one. I do want one easy to use, and download songs. They dont have to have much space at all-at this point 100 songs would be a ton for them. Any suggestions? Thanks-you guys seem to know everything, lol.

My kids love music so for my son's 6th b-day we got him an mp3 player. If you go to ebay and search mickey mouse mp3 player they have inexpensive mickey head shaped mp3 players. you plug them into the computer via included usb cable to charge and load songs. Twisting one ear skips back or forth through the songs, twisting the other ear adjusts the volume. It came with ear buds that double as a lanyard. All said, I think it was $15 (give or take.) The only downside was that it took a little longer to ship (it says how long in the description, we waited a little long to order it.)

Not the toughest mp3, but for the price, I think it is perfect for kids.

Toys R Us has one in their ad this week for 50%, its $11.49. My almost 6 year ds has the same one since he was 4. Its very simple to use and its a perfect starter MP3 player. He just noticed that the ipod nano comes in his favorite color but there is no way he is getting one of those yet.

Look for the 4 GB Sansa Clip, $39.99 at Best Buy this week. It's about the size of an iPod Shuffle, but is nicer since it has a screen and you can pick the songs you want to play.

I am signed up for Newegg newsletter, today they will be having this one:

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16855712001

on sale for $14.99 (1GB player, says it's Disney's High School Musical) with free shipping. It will go on sale at 1PM Pacific time until midnight or until supplies run out. I don't know if you will be able to access it at that price or not without the newsletter. Send me a pm with your email addy and I'll forward on the newsletter. Not sure if you can sign up for one right now and still get it. Not sure if you can find them on site without using the link on the newsletter.

The above is the link from the newsletter, if I click it from the newsletter it takes me to the first link which is at regular price, I am guessing because it is not the sale time yet. Hope those work for you if it is something you are interested in. Don't know anything about the players, if they are easy to use or how they hold up, any software that might be included, etc.

I have been using this MP3 player for three years almost every day. No problems so far. I use it to listen to audio books, music and the radio during my commute by bus and subway. I bought the 2GB model and it did not work correctly with audio books. Your kids might enjoy audio books downloaded from the public library web site. It is very easy to use and also comes with a voice recorder.

Well, I know nothing about these things, so I hope I made the right choice. I ordered ds one of these, liked the fact it had a fm tuner and recorder, and he wants one that looks cool:sad2: I would much rather have Mickey, lol. I looked at everything you guys all mentioned, I cant see anything wrong with any of them. I was sold on the one on sale at Toys r us, until I saw this one. I like the HSM one too, but ds wouldn't be caught dead, lol. Ill have to ask DD if one of these is really one her list for sure, she has a barbie girl one already, but you know kids;) I dont want them to fight, and trying to keep from buying junk this year for Christmas.

So, heres hoping this one is great and I made the right choice!! Thanks to all!

My kids would LOVe a Nano, too ;). No way-Id be throwing the money away, lol. thanks so much for your suggestion! Love the price! I m going to TRU tomorrow anyway Im going to look at this still.

kids.woot.com has one on sale today for $9.99 + shipping. It has educational games loaded on it too

I'm a fan of the Sansa Shaker player. I've given a half dozen to my nieces and nephews. My DD5 loves hers because it has a speaker and she can play her music without headphones. It also has two headphone jacks and a nifty "shaking" random play feature. It's available at Toys 'R' Us for 19.99.

This is what we have as well. DD is autistic and EXTREMELY hard on things. We have had it for almost a year with no trouble. :)

They have pretty decent ones a few times a month at woot.com I go there daily to check out their deals. I would also check 1saleaday.com daily. You never know what they will carry on a given day. :)

I'm going to second, third or fourth the Sansa Sandisk... DS has had one for quite some time... can't kill it!

I know how you feel, but I'm sucking it up and buying the nano for middle DS because oldest DS has a nano. I figure in the long run I will save money. They like the same music so I'm filling two for the price of one.

Don't they make kid tough mp3 players? I know they make the cameras...I think its Fisher Price or Playskool. I was thinking that they had mp3 too and that would be good as far as durability.

If you can still find them in stores (or on eBay), the "Juice Box" line of MP3 players are most definitely indestructible and fits your description to a "T".

And the price is most definitely right!

Looks like you already bought one, but I second the Sansa shaker. We love that you can listen through the speaker so the kids can listen together. You can shake it to make it skip songs - the kids like that part!

For anyone else out there that is looking for a 1g MP3 for cheap, here is a link to what it looks like, but you can only buy it in the store.

I saw it there yesterday, different colors too. Oh, and if you read the reviews, please scroll down and read the one that tells the person that left negative feedback what they were doing wrong. It seems to be getting a bad rap from people not familiar with charging and reading directions! LOL

My son is looking for one that is cool looking:cool2: -and knowing him this wouldnt fit the bill. Also, the speakers in my house would be a negative, lol. He would use it to annoy his sister. Yes, they are a handful. For normal children, this one looks great!! I love the idea of two headphones and speakers, but I know my kids-that s a fight waiting to happen:rotfl: Im going to keep this in mind for gifts, though. It has a lot of neat features at a nice price.:thanks:
