We are planning a trip to disney in feb and wanted to make an adr for..tapanyakki(sp??)...but i have just found out it will be closed down!!!! :guilty: My son loves the "Fire Guys" as he call thems and i am saddened to learn that for his first trip he won't be able to go to the disney fire guy. So where do i take him now? Any suggestions?? :confused3

It is upsetting when you were counting on something. Would they like character meals? Have they been to the Coral Reef? I bet the fish would be entertaining. :goodvibes

There is a (local) chain of japanese steakhouses with teppan grills called Kobe that get generally good reviews. Same idea as Teppanyaki, very similar show, and a fair bit cheaper (with salad and soup still included!). Of course, the downside is that it is not right there in epcot; if you don't have a car, you'll have to cab it back and forth.

Here are the locations: http://www.kobesteakhouse.com/kobemap.html

Depending on where you are staying, the Palm Pkwy or Parkway Blvd are probably the closest.

Do you not have a restaurant at home that is the same concept? Benihana's is another chain (like kobe) that is the same thing as Teppenyaki. Do they have Benihana's in Orlando, too?

If you don't have one at home, you could just eat offsite so he can have it while in Orlando.

I vote for KOBE!!!!

For years we stayed off-site, and this is one of my all-time favourite restaurants. If you're a meat eater, make sure to get the filet mignon!!! It is awesome!!!!

There is a Behinhanan at ... Wyndham maybe, or some DTD area hotel...You could try there.

honestly, Teppanyakki isn't really all that great. We have a local Japanese hibatchi restaurant here where I live...and it's 10 times better than Epcot's.
There are better restaurants than Teppanyakki in Epcot.

May I suggest the Garden Grill in The Land, Epcot. Garden Grill is really awesome...buffet style (they bring the food to you), character dining experience, and the entire restaurant slowly rotates! You get to see the Living with the Land attraction as you go through your meal. It's a really great atmosphere.

Wherever you decide to eat, enjoy yourself! :)

Take him to character meals... check out this page on the Dis with the lists of all the dining venues and what they offer.. They are listed by resorts, parks and downtown disney.....

He will just love being there and there are so many other offerings.. put this out of your mind and go for the gusto.

Is it closing down for good or being remodeled? My DH wanted to go when we were there, but didn't get a chance to so it is one on our list for the next trip. We have a couple here where we live, but wanted to go to one at Disney.

If you want to stay in EPCOT how about Biergarten? It is a buffet so the kids should be able to find something they like and there is a show too.

According to Allearsnet,

Teppanyaki Restaurant in Epcot's Japan pavillion will be closed for a major rehab from January 15 - May 25, 2007. No further details are known.

My son also had Teppanyaki on his list of must dos. :guilty:

I think I'll give the Hilton a try. Anyone know if you can make a reservation there?

Would he like the luau at the Polynesian? I believe they had a fire dancer?

This was an awesome show, we all loved it.

I am not really sure what to do. I don't want ot eat off site cause we are doing the ddp. We already are eating at the garden grill and we are not fish people. The other dinners i have planned are 50's prime time, sci-fi, cinderellla's, chef micky's. I need two more paces to eat but am not sure where to take a 6 year old. We don't really care for AK, there are like 3 or 4 rides there so we don't go there. Any other suggestions though would be great. Thanks foir all who responded. :goodvibes

As somebody else suggested, Biergarten is good for kids. There is a band and dance floor, so your son could run around and dance instead of getting bored at the table. Or you could try another resort restaurant, like Ohana or Whispering Canyon that caters to kids with games and fun interaction.
