Yesterday I got an email from DS.com for their pin sale. I went ahead and put a cute Tinkerbell pin set in my shopping cart, with one other pin. Then, since I was still working, I looked away from the computer for about two hours, without checking out. When I looked back on my order, my shopping cart was at 0 items and it was impossible to get back on the site to put the items back into the cart. I called their order line, and the rep couldn't get on her system either. It was at least an hour before I could get back on the page, and by then, the Tink pin set was sold out! I am very dissatified with this. Should I call and complain, or is it my fault for not putting my payment info in immediately?

Most online stores do not hold items that are in your cart - if the item is in your cart but sells out before you check out you lose out on the item. In the future if it is something you really want I would purchase it right away - if you just put it in your cart and wait until later to purchase there is no guarentee that you will be able to get it. This has happened to me a few times at other online stores. Sorry for your disappointment.

Well you really can't get mad at Disney since you never did place your order. Just because it was in you shopping bag does not mean they are holding for you.

I have learned the hard way many times myself when ordering online. If you see something you want order it now because it may not be there the next time you look.

I'm kicking myself right now for ordering something on a different website because it is gone now and I reallllllllly wanted this item.

They said they were all sold out very quickly on the Tink pin set (only had a handful), but they were having technical problems, so she could honor a discount on another set. Unfortunately, there were no other sets I liked. Rep gave me a discount on the HM graveyard instead! She was not able to give me the additional 20% discount that I had in the email, but gave me free shipping instead. I'll take that! Still a little put off by the experience, since I was excited about the Tink set, but I'll get over it.

Assoon as I opened the email I went cruising the site to see what I would want.. In the space of just 5 minutes I noticed three items starting to come up as unavialable.
I quickly ordered! LOL

I passed on the Tink set.. I really really realy wanted it but couldn't justify the cost.
But I did buy the conceptual art Peter Pan set- It's cute and affordable. And I kinda like Mary Blair stuff.

They empty your cart for both security and their own inventory control. A lot of people will go shopping and then "dump" their e-carts. I have a girlfriend who regularly carts several thousand dollars of books at a time from Amazon for the "fun" of shopping, looks at the total and bails. Order processing also needs to be very secure - it needs to time out due to inactivity. Imagine if you had a half filled cart and then left your PC open at work to run to the bathroom and one of your co-workers clicked themselves a cart full and had it shipped to them using your credit card.

Chalk it up to learning something about e-shopping.

With good sales at DS, I split my order to get checked out as soon as possible. The DS.com site operates on a delay basis and it is possible to get emails informing you that an item ordered is not available. These usually come a day or two after the order is placed. Call and place your order on the phone while accessing the site if you want to check on the most up-to-date inventory.

I ordered the Tinkerbell Lanyard and the order went through just fine. Now today I get an email saying they are unable to fulfill my order please accept their apologies. So even if your order would have went through you may not have gotten it anyway.

When they have good sales I guess the lesson is to buy early. You can't really blame them for running out, and sometimes the computer inventories and actuals do not match. I can't really see being upset with them because there was a computer problem or because you walked away without buying. If I see something on sale at Walmart, put it in a cart, leave, and come back in two hours and its gone, I can't blame them. Better luck next time.

I don't get this. Here's why. I have signed in, put stuff in my cart, decided I didn't have any more time to look around and just closed out with the red "X" in the corner, and then signed in a week or even two weeks later to discover that I still had things in my cart, lol. I suppose I've never tried to order a hot item. ;)

I snoozed & I lost, too. I was going to get the faces of Jack Skellington pin set for my son's birthday. 1/2 off is sweet. I didn't realize that the next day they'd all be gone. Lesson learned.
