Hitting a deer is a very traumatical ordeal. I hit one on 611 in 2002. I still remember the time, 5:23 pm, on my way home from work. It was dusk - no sun but not yet dark. There were 2 of them, one cleared my truck the other did not. I have never screamed so loud in my life. I immediately call 911 and parked my truck to block the traffic behind me so no one else hit her. The poor thing was trying to get up but I assume I broke it's legs. The police put it out of its misery as I sat in my car crying and begging God to forgive me! What was even sadder was the deer stayed on the side of the road for a few days until someone picked it up. Of course, I was hyterical everytime I drove by. My damage, while it didn't look too bad, was extensive. I had a new Blazer at the time and it was over $6,000 to repair.
Once you hit one you are always on the lookout for others. Thank God your family was unhurt.
