Only 21 days to our 1st Universal holiday- we are staying at the HRH and I was just wondering where people keep their room keys for easy access at the rides. I found some lanyards today at the dollar store but they seem to be for keys- the end has a clip on it- do the room keys have a small hole punched thru them to clip onto? I am traveling with my DD10 and DS9 and if they have them in a pocket I am worried they will get lost. Suggestions?

I've never stayed onsite, but I see a lot of people carry them on lanyards. If I remember correctly, someone posted on here that the hotel would punch a hole in them for you if you ask.

You could also look for plastic sleeves (like for nametags at business meetings) that clip onto the lanyard. But I'd make sure they seal at the top or the card fits tightly, otherwise you'd risk them slipping out during the rides.

In the parks, you can also get a lanyard with a little plastic cover that you can put your room key card in.

We bought the lanyards with the pouches at Universal. We kept our room key card and passes in them. They were really good for the express line as they can be scanned without having to take them out of a pocket. You might find one before you go at an office supply store like Office Max as they are used for identification at a lot of offices. Ask for a lanyard with badge holder.

i use the UO blue billfold type of lanyard.
with the clear front pocket, your hotel key can be put there.
i'm sure it's like brit jude's.

i have seen the front desk use a hole puncher for kids.
they then their hotel key with a regular lanyard string looped thru it.

Get a hole punched in the key card at the hotel and use a lanyard with a clip.

We bought the pouch style lanyard at the park in 2008. The pouch was clear plastic and attached to the lanyard with a metal clip. Within an hour on our first day, our niece's pouch and card had dissapeared on the Disaster ride. She still had the lanyard and clip, but the plastic pouch must have torn and fallen off?

We had to go back to the hotel to get a new card for her. When we got there, they told us this happened a lot with the plastic pouches and suggested punching a hole in the card and clipping it to the lanyard. We did the hole punch on all five of our cards and had no further issues over three days.

Have a great trip.

I used to use one of my many lanyards but don't fool with them during the day since I have plenty of pockets and worry the clip might break. The only time I use a lanyard now is during HHN since my ticket has Express built into it...but that's it. If you aren't staying onsite and won't have Express, you can skip the lanyard since you won't have to show the ticket once you enter the gates...just make sure you have a pocket to put your ticket and credit cards in that's secure.

We keep them in a side pocket of the backpack we carry or in the side pocket of the boy's shorts (that either button or velcro). We have never had any problem with doing it this way.

We purchased billfold type lanyards several years ago and I use mine and store money, room key, credit card etc. Just make sure to tuck it in your shirt when you go on some of the rides. My sister laughed at me when I told her to do that and after the Mummy ride we had to go back to the hotel to get another key so she could do the express line :)

I used a lanyard I found at Walmart. It had a clear pouch in the front for my room key and a zipped pouch on the back for money etc.I rode FHulk,Mummy and Dragon challenge( all thrilling coasters )as well as Forbidden Journey etc and my cards never budged nor did the lanyard.I just made sure the strap was tight and tucked it down the front of my shirt

If you wear a lanyard, definitely tuck it in! I lost mine on The Hulk (it was returned to me the next day at Guest Services thank goodness) for my boys I bought the little spiral/springy keychains with a clasp on them and they hooked them to their belt loops. Just pulled it out of their pocket to show the TM's
