Does anyone have any experience with Vasectomy Reversal? John and I have been talking very seriously about starting the research and getting information about this. A little background. I had 1 miscarriage before John-Cole was born and then 3 after John-Cole. These were very hard on my both physically and emotionally. Birth Control Pills never worked for us, nor did the shot. It seemed that literally John could look at me and I would get pregnant. During this time I was having serious anxiety/panic problems and our Doctor suggested a vasectomy. We were 24 years old. Well now 6 years later I have learned to control my anxiety and have not had a full blown panic attack in a number of months. When I do have them I now know how to talk my way through them and cope with them. Most of the time though I am perfectly fine. I would love to have another child. John-Cole is 11 now and growing so fast and I realized I'm not ready to stop being a mother. I always wanted more than one child, as did John and we think "maybe" this would be possible now. We both agree that the number one thing in this process is for me to get the majority of my weight off so that there won't be as many risks involved in a pregnancy. That will probably take about a year. This means that I will be around 32 years old when we start trying to get pregnant and then "IF" things work out then the baby would be born by age 34 or 35. I guess I'm just asking for any experience having a child mid 30s or any experience with vasectomy reversal.

This is going to be a long process with a lot of thought and a lot of hard work but for the first time I'm really excited about the prospect.

Thanks you guys.

I can't help with the reversal, but I was 33 when my DS was born and 35 when my DD was born. For the most part they were uneventful pregnancies. The only problem I had was that at the very end my blood pressure went up. Both kids were induced, but I didn't have any problems with that either. Both of them were healthy when born. I declined amnio since I didn't want to add any possible problems, and since the outcome wouldn't have changed anything, (we wouldn't have aborted no matter what) my Dr. agreed.

Good luck to you Beth. If this is what both you and John want, and you are prepared for the possible hard times that may be ahead, I say go for it! Babies and children are such a great joy.

but wanted to wish you the best...and do you mind if I ask why The Pill didn't work? I ask this because I am on it (for many years) and the thought of that is really worrisome. Thank you!

I was pregnant at 33 and gave birth at 34. There are plenty of us around. :teeth: And I'm NOT the oldest mom in DS's class! :teeth: I was a high risk pregnancy since I'm diabetic. But things were fine until the last month or so. Blood pressure was up, pre-eclampsia. But it's all worth it for the little one. But you're right...get rid of any weight you can beforehand. I also "refused amnio" as my doc noted in my chart. I was keeping him no matter what the case was.

Hi!

Thanks for the well wishes. My blood pressure is boarderline now which is why we both think its very important for me to take this year and get to a healthy weight before we go any further. We have discussed this a very little with my doctor (the same one who delivered John-Cole) and he has a doctor who specialized in reversals. He also said that he would do a C-Section on the baby (I had an emergency C-Section with John-Cole). He believes in the Once a C-Section always a C-Section even though I know its possible to do it naturally I trust my doctor 300 percent.

The pill never worked for us. Either I'm extremly fertile or John is...LOL! First of all John is the only person I have been with and I am his only so we had no prior experience with birth control. I went on the pill and was pregnant within a month. I had a miscarriage and went back on the pill (very strong according to my Dr.) and again got pregnant within a few months. Then we tried the shot and again I got pregnant.....by this time I was so emotionally shattered that the Dr. thought the vasectomy was for the best. I don't think I could have handled another miscarriage at that point. Things were extremely bad for me with anxiety. If you have been on the pill a long time then you should be fine. There is always that 1% but when I got Pregnant while on the pill it was within ... thinking back I would say the first 4 months of being on it both times and with the shot it was within the first 2 months.

I don't have much information, but my sister's ex-husband had a reversal and had 2 children with his new wife.

My ex-brother-in-law had the vasectomy after his three sons were born . . .after my sis and him divorced I guess his new wife wanted children and he went and had the reversal . . .you can probably get more info on looking up vasectomy reversal on the web . . .I don't think it was that big of a procedure . . .probably the same as the actual vasectomy . . .in and out (no pun intended):D

Definitely work on the weight reduction. That can make a huge difference in your BP. I'm sorry for all your losses, Beth! Could be you kept losing them because of the pill! Good luck with all the planning.

I was 30 and 34 when my kids were born. No problems whatsoever.

These days, 35 or 36 is not very old to have a baby, I know plenty of people who have had babies well into their 40's.

The most successful reversal story I ever heard happened to my BIL and SIL. They were both 42, had grown kids from previous marriages, and both were "fixed" before they married one another. They decided they wanted to have a baby together, so he got the vasectomy reversal, she had her tubes untied, and they successfully got pregnant on the FIRST try. :) Cora Lee is 8 years old now, and not only do her parents adore her so much, her much older brother and sisters do too. :)

Good luck, Beauty and John! :)

Okay Snoopy thanks for the tears! That is so precious! My entire family consists of my grandmother, mom, John, me and John-Cole. Thats it! Another thought was that I don't want John-Cole to grow up and have no family if something were to happen to John and I.

I'm an only child and have always wanted a brother or sister. I'm also just not ready to stop being a parent...of course J.C. is only 11 so I have plenty of time left but I just don't feel like J.C. was meant to be the only one. It might sound silly but deep in my heart I know I was supposed to have more children!

Not silly at all, Beth! You have a lot of love to give another child, I think its a terrific idea that you are considering it! :) Remember, medical science has come a looooooooong way, go talk to the doctor, I bet the odds are pretty good that you could successfully become pregnant again.

I'm going to say a prayer for your family that it all works out. :)

Beth, my mom was in her very late 30's, close to 40 when she had me, and look how I turned out.;) :p Sorry, didn't mean to scare you.:teeth:

Mary Jo.....LOL!!!

I tell you what I would love a little red headed girl (John has red hair!!) who loves cats!! After all she would be living in a house full of them! Oh and BTW, the male Maine Coon I'm getting...John-Cole asked if we could name him Simba. I said I don't know there could only be ONE REAL SIMBA...lol!

Snoops thanks so much! We have a long way to go and are going to take it one step at a time!

Good luck, Beth...you aren't too old!

Simba is an excellent choice!:teeth:

I have a couple of red-headed great-neices I could send down to test you.....;) :p :teeth:

How can you ask a personal question on a board with 25,000 members?

Awww, Beauty. I don't have any information just a {{{{Hug}}}} for you and hopes that all works out for you. That would be wonderful! Listen to snoopy, she's very wise. :D

I was 33 when my daughter was born, you're definitely not too old. :)

I think the biggest consideration really is that having kids so far apart in age will be like having two only children. I know people that have done it and it has worked out fine, but it's just something to keep in mind.

You are wise to consider all the health ramifications first and get those taken care of before trying to conceive. Good luck with everything, I hope you get the second child you want. :)

I have no experience with vasectomy or reversal but my last 2 children where born when I was 35 and 37. This is my 2nd marriage and my dh had not been married before nor did he have any kids. This worked out great since I had always wanted a large family but had to get rid of my x after 2 kiddo's.
I did have the amnio with my last 2, it was quick and painless and gave me piece of mind. My boys are 15 yrs, 12 yrs, 2 yrs and 8 months. I have really enjoyed having the last 2 join our family. Its so great to see my older sons with the little ones.
Good luck with everything!

I don't have any experience myself with vasectomy reversal but a friend of mine's DH had it done. They also had to have invitro fertilization because of low ?? count but she did become pregnant - with twins.

I had my first at 25, my second at 30 and my third at 37. There is 12 years between 1st and 3rd but it works great for us. My sister had her tubes tied very early at age 23 after two kids 13 months apart. She always regretted having it done. They looked into reversal but back then it was way to expensive.

Good luck with your decision, whatever it may be.

I don't have any information for you, Beth, I just wanted to wish you good luck. :)
