Very OT: Has anyones dog ate an Oreo?

The peroxide is adjusted by the size of the dog. Both of our male shelties have at one point been very "naughty" with chocolate and we had to induce vomiting. It's been several years, though and I don't remember the exact dosage for their weight (about 35 lbs at that time). We had a female sheltie first and she never got into the trouble these two do......a true lady!! Today our younger guy (he's three now) got into the grocery bags while I was putting stuff in the freezer and not paying attention.......he pulled a half pound bag of freshly grated romano cheese from the bag and chewed a hole in the bag and was eating the cheese before I caught him!! Made a real mess on my kitchen floor ......all that grated cheese ....not to mention almost $7.00 worth of cheese in the trash!!

I'm pretty sure that regular chocolate can make a dog sick but if you are worried about it keeling over and dying, it's bakers choclate that's the problem. I think I read somewhere that 1 oz of baking chocolate per lb of body weight can kill a dog. Milk chocolate will probably just give them the runs or make them puke if eaten in large enough quantities.

Our lab ate my son's chocolate Easter bunny this year. He was so upset!!!

Hmmm.... 60 pound pain in the buttoir dog x 1 oz chocolate= ........No, I'm just kidding! She's not THAT bad!

She did find a one pound bag of M&Ms a few months ago and downed the whole bag (and I mean the whole BAG, just a little scrap corner left). She threw up so many times that night, I was about to heave myself. But, she came out of it fine.

I had a dog once that we fed chocolate to all the time. This was before it was so widely known that it was harmful. He ate LOTS of it on a regular basis. We were kids at the time and we brought home lots of "out of date" chocolate from the local store. I was raised poor. What we didnt eat the dog ate. He lived to be a very OLD dog, and was always healthy.
I wouldnt recommend it, but it never killed ours, and it was part of his regular diet. Besides, these days you have to worry more about canned food killing your pets.:sad2:

This is bringing back some funny memories. We adopted a Chihuahua from my brother and on his first night with us he snuck into our pantry and ate a whole box of chocolate covered donuts. Oh the mess he made that night. He threw up for hours. He weighs 5 lbs. I have no idea how he ate the whole box. the next day he ate a potato. He was sick after that too. I tend to believe this might be the dumbest breed of dogs but after two attempts at stealing food from the pantry with horrible results he has never tried it again. Maybe he is smarter than I give him credit for.

With the popularity of dark chocolate, some up to 75% pure cacao... should dog owners be a little more cautious?

I don't own a dog, but my best friend's mom used to give their dog chocolate all the time before knowing "the rules".

I guess we should all be a little more "aware" of
what they can & cannot have. Our golden retriever
LOVES onions :goodvibes He has ate them since he
was a puppy (He's now 4) But until this thread I
had no clue :sad2: that they were bad for him.

Our dogs are just like family & I would never do
anything to put them in harms way, so I feel really
bad :sad1: I'm just glad I know now ;)

We have three dogs and the 95 lb lab mix ate half a bag of Oreos once. She sleeps in the laundry room and let's just say that I have NEVER seen such a mess in my life when we woke up the next morning. I don't want to go through another incident like that again!

M&M fundraiser for basketball
40 boxes of M&Ms in the case on the floor
Black lab mix
Didn't check that the bedroom door was shut all the way

:scared1: One Ungodly Mess:scared1:

And I was out $20 from my babysitting money!:headache:

My dog weights 6 lbs and she eats them any time she see one of my grandkids having them. she will run after them to get some of their cookie and if they dont watch out she will take a whole cookie from them too.
It's not good for them but she will be okay, since it was only one.
My vet told me that cooking chocolate is really bad for them and to worry if she gets any of that.
