Hi, everyone

We'll be at WDW in just 3 weeks. It's me, my boyfriend, his daughter and my daughter. You're all experts at this so I'm hoping you can give some neophytes some insight.

Kira (13) and Jordie (17), our daughters, have decided they want to get in on the pin trading action. We bought them each about a dozen pins on cheappins.com . They have an idea about themes they want to look for - Jordie: Lilo and Stitch, Kira : The Nightmare Before Christmas. They also each have a couple of pins in their theme that they want to keep. Here's the question. They don't want to wear them on lanyards or carry them in a book or bag. They want to put them on the backpack, or a bottle strap, or a hat. Will this work? I'm afraid they'll come off and be lost if you keep opening the backpack to get stuff out. They won't wear a vest or anything like that, either. Does anyone have any suggestions for them as to how to display their pins? Thank you!

Welcome to the Collectors Board, Melanie. :)

First bit of advice I can give you is to be on the lookout for this man and the white-haired woman on the left --

speedo.jpg

She is Donna. He is Ed (a.k.a. Raulandpinboy a.k.a. Raul a.k.a. Manuelo, but only when he crashes the Super Soap Weekends). They may or may not be wearing the outfits seen above, but even if they are not they should be wearing something (hint hint, Ed). In any event, rest assured that they are two of the nicest, most wonderful people you could ever hope to meet, in and outside of pin trading.

The other lady is Peggie, or Mickey527, one of our other regulars on here, and a super nice person as well. Depending on flight availability between CT and Florida, you may see her as well.

Okay, other bits of advice. First, I would be careful about wearing pins on backpacks. One of two things could happen. One, the pin backs might not be secure and could fall off, causing the pin to fall off. Two, someone in a dense crowd could easily pull it off or it could get snagged on something and get pulled off. I would highly recommend pin locks, which are available at dizneypins.com or other outlets online (and I'm sure people here would be happy to PM or e-mail you with direct links to places they know of).

A bottle strap would work just as well as a lanyard. Not only would it be decorative but also functional. (okay, I've been watching too many home improvement shows with Lauri)

If you don't get any pin locks, I would highly recommend the rubber backs. They grip the posts much better than the metal backs. Plus, if they decide to wear the pins on a hat, the rubber backs are much more comfortable than the metal backs in the event of an unintentional head butt.

And sticking to themes from the start is a great idea. Not only will it make collecting easier, but that way you won't have to raid the college fund to pay for the pins. :teeth:

One last bit of advice. Go see Scoop's seminar.

Have fun!! :)

Very fetching outfits if I do say so myself. I'll be sure and say hey if I see them and if I can cut through the huge crowds of people that will no doubt be staring and taking photographs.;)

I'll be searching for those rubber pin backs online, unless someone wants to save me the effort and post a link?

Thanks for the advice, it looks like we'll be going with the bottle strap plan. The bottle strap also can be used as a lasso if the need arises, or maybe a jumprope if we have an extra burst of energy while waiting for a bus.:bounce: See? We put the fun in multifunctional.

Thanks again!

Melanie,
I hope we run into you when you are at WDW. And don't look for me in that purple outfit, I retired that immediatly after I saw the photo.
It did look good on Donna though.
And although Ed still wears that Speedo he has a few others so look for the speedo, not the gold.
I will be ther for the September event from Sept 19 through the 22nd. I don't have any other trips planned yet, but with those Southwest rates I am really tempted.
And as Ed's personal costume designer you just have to wait and see what I have planned for the Sept. event. He always tells me that anything goes so I take him at his word. Peggie

I just want to say... Oh forget it I'll be misquoted anyway.

No I'll say it

Melanie you are never going to get sweet and sour sauce for your chicken nuggets.

I have been buying chicken nuggets since the first day they came out, and to this day I have not gotten my sweet and sour sauce. I have asked, begged, pleaded, threatened the people behind the window.

But they will swear on Mother Theresa's grave that its in the bag, but it's not until you drive away and wait for your freshly nuked nuggets to cool down to the point were you can actually hold the box in your hand without getting 3rd degree burns, that you will notice it's either the wrong sauce, or there is no sauce at all.

I don't think sweet and sour exists, I think its all a big Ronald McDonalds lie.

So come clean clown, there is no sweet and sour sauce IS THERE!!!! LIAR.

And do not even think about sitting in the drive thru and checking the bag yourself... Mickey D's has the emergency ticked off truck driver alarm, all the kids behind the window have to do is press a button if they see trying to inspect you bag. 3 seconds later there is a 9 foot tall semi tractor trailer is behind you with a driver named Crazy Cooter, and he has a passion for blowing that air horn and making you poop yourself.

My message is this, don’t do as I did, do not waste your life searching for the magical sauce, be content with barbeque.

So anyway me thinks they will not do the lanyard for fear of some cute boys seeing them with a lanyard and thus branding them as nerdy pin geeks, if you think the lanyard is funny try the hat theory. For the fashionably seasoned pintrader newbie I suggest the small pin bag that almost looks like a small purse it holds about 30 pins and is quite fashionable, it can be tossed into the backpack and forgotten until the new trade is in the works.

You want to be able to reach you pins in a hurry if you see a Castmember with a lanyard, and a pin they must have on it, have a pin in hand and be ready to trade. Many a pin has been lost due to the fact that while you were running through your backpack looking for pins, a 5 year old came up with a pin in hand and out maneuvered you and got your pin.

Bottle strap hmmmmm okay but your 75% towards a lanyard why not go all the way.

Of course there is the fanny pack purse pinbag combo but it will make people point and laugh at you.

Okay but now where do we get these bags?

Try classicpins.com or pinfever.com, or for sure dizneypins.com yes dizney is with a z.

They also sell locking pin backs to make sure you don’t loose them if you go the hat route.

And as to rubber pin backs go to Ebay and look up item number 3621197623

Now in order to meet some cool traders and us, you can hit the pintrading nights, like the All-star pin trading night every Thursday night, the Contemporary on Fridays, The Hampton INN on Saturday. But a must see and do is Scoops pin trading seminar at 1:00pm on Mondays Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays we are there on Sundays at the Exposition Hall. Oh and all the pin trading nights begin at 7:00pm.

Good luck and hope to see you down here.

Oh sure Ed, you can get away with wearing gold lamé, what with those 6-pack abs of yours as opposed to my 6-pack stomach.

Gee Ed, maybe McD's ships all of the S&S sauce up to Canada. We've got it by the buckets. You don't even have to get any chicken nuggets, they just throw it into the bag. As a matter of fact, they give you an extra bag jammed full of sweet and sour sauce.

Ya know, I have been one of the Crazy Cooters in the McDonald's drive through. Except in my case I was in an army truck at the time. Yup, I was sitting in a big old diesel powered three axle 10-wheeler army truck. The person in front of us in their puny little Chevette was practically screaming their order into the speaker. Of course when we got to the speaker we cut the engine, we also had to open the door and lean down since it was quite a distance below us. We also found out that we could just get the truck under the drive through roof...just. That Chevette in front of us shouldn't have placed that special order, they were still at the window when we rolled up. I think they may have been a little nervous to have us behind them. Of course if you ask Sandy about some of my army stories a lot of people should have been nervous when I was around.

Okay to get on topic, our past visits to WDW have found us sticking pins to our chapeaus.

Although we don't go head-butting as Matt seems to enjoy doing, we have replaced the pin backs with the rubber ones which hold on a lot better.

Brian

Okay, after that last posting of Brian's, I decided to do a little searching online to prove my theory that Ed and Brian are actually twins separated at birth...

Take a look at what I discovered...

separated.jpg

Now I know why Brian has absolutely nothing in common with his siblings. :teeth:

Wonder what Ed looks like in a beard.

Was Ed, that hot tomale, actually born in Canada? Did Donna know this all along? Is Brian really a hot-blooded Latino stuck in the frigid north? Will Sandy be able to tell them apart should Ed decide to grow a beard?

Tune in tomorrow... Same pin time, same pin channel...

:smooth:

Sandy (and Brian, Bonnie & Kellie)
:earsgirl: :earsboy: :earsgirl: :earsgirl:

If your my twin I know Sandy must be very happy with the way you... Er never mind family board.

I never knew I had a brother, now if he was just rich and owned like 34% of Microsoft. :teeth:
