Today is a rough day for the nation, for the world, but especially for those in the NYC metro area.

Please take a moment today to pause, reflect and be thankful.

NEW YORK (CNN) -- President Obama and first lady Michelle Obama held a moment of silence outside the White House on Friday as New York and the nation paused on the eighth anniversary of the September 11, 2001, terror attacks that killed 2,752 people.

New York came to a halt Friday as people held a moment of silence at 8:46 a.m.

1 of 2 Al Qaeda terrorists hijacked airplanes and crashed them into the World Trade Center and the Pentagon, twin symbols of America's financial and military might. Another hijacked plane crashed in a field near Shanksville, Pennsylvania; its intended target was the White House or the Capitol.

There was a moment of silence at the site of the former World Trade Center at 8:46 a.m. when the first plane struck the North Tower, followed by another at 9:03 a.m. when a jet struck the South Tower.

Relatives and friends of the dead read their names in a solemn roll call.

....

Just before the first moment of silence, New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg praised the newly established September 11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, designated by Obama.

.....

Obama will make remarks and participate in a wreath-laying ceremony for the 184 victims killed when American Airlines Flight 77 struck the Pentagon's west wall.

A ceremony will be held in Shanksville just before 10 a.m. to remember the 40 passengers and crew of United Airlines Flight 93 who died when the hijacked plane went down in a field. The passengers and crew, aware of the fate of other hijacked planes, fought the men who had taken control of their aircraft, leading to its crash.

Country singer Trace Adkins will sing the national anthem. Colin Powell, former U.S. secretary of state, will give the keynote address.

When they say: "We Will Never Forget" - we won't! You can not say September 11th or the 11th of September without the images of those towers in your mind.

My heart pours out to the families that lost their loved ones in those planes, the families that have lost their loved ones in those buildings and the families that lost their loved ones fighting in the line of duty - but my heart pours out the most to the moms and dads that are losing their young sons and daughters in this war.

Today is a day to love.

We may not live in the NYC area but for all Americans this is a day to remember and pay tribute to the victims and their loved ones. I know I got misty today when I saw the date on the calendar and I can't imagine what the day is like for those who lived through it at and around Ground Zero.:grouphug:

mmm...Kona :) I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.

Today is pretty much going to be crappy for a bunch of us. I'll never forget everything about this day 8 years ago and I've gotten choked up and cried a few times last night and today already. I was lucky enough to be in CT away at college but those morning hours were pure torture trying to not lose my mind and have a breakdown because we couldn't get in contact with my father, cousin, and a bunch of old coworkers who were in the city that day.

We planned a bday celebration tonight for one of my friends who just moved here not even realizing the date. He wanted to go to a bar right on the Hudson River and it dawned on us yesterday that they might have the memorial lights on. It was rumored that they were going to stop it after last year. It's a gorgeous, emotional tribute that I hope they continue every year.

This Saturday was not the end of waking up in the middle of the night. I also had to wake up at ...2:17am... to get to NYC to....

....participate in a RKT video shoot!

Now, if you don't know, RKT is Rob Thomas (of Matchbox 20 / Santana fame). He was filming his latest video off his second solo album, titled "Someday".

The call time was 5am. ***biiiig grrrrroan here** So, I wake at 2:17am, get ready, bring the additional clothing that the casting director asked for. Meet my friends at 4am and thankfully, one of my friend's hubby drove us in and we would get public transit back.

So, we get in, pre-dawn, NO TRAFFIC! Holy buckets, NYC and no traffic is quite a feat. We enter and after 30 minutes or so, we were able to be served some coffee and pastries.

We then get checked by wardrobe and I had to change my shirt & shoes. And off we go at 6:30am to be "parade spectators".

We film until 11:30 and many many many takes...I think I counted about 20. Mr. Thomas :cool2: came in around 9am to do a few scenes. I was going to be behind him for a scene, but then the directors added more people, so I ended up about 4 rows behind him! :rotfl:

When the break was called, Rob did stay for awhile, but I wasn't able to talk or get a picture with him. So many people were around. It wasn't a closed set or anything and security was non-existent. So, I didn't bother.

We take a lunch break with some pizza and end up back at the set around 1pm, but we didn't film again until 2pm when Rob came back. We did another few takes until about 3:30pm, then it was raining really hard, so the shoot ended.

Rob did take a few moments to thank people and off he went into his chauffered Cadillac.

Basically, I'm "behind" whatever you see. It'll be interesting to see what comes out after 40-odd takes of doing the same thing over and over and over.

I did take pics, but I have them on my cell. I have to figure out how to get them to post on here.

We were able to catch the 4:54 train back in NJ with a transfer, so I finally got to my car around 6pm. It took about 30 minutes to drive back home.

I was in bed by 7:15pm and didn't wake up again until 7:30am on Sunday morning!!! :flower3:

And Sunday, I did NOTHING. I feel asleep on and off all day. I had no problem falling asleep that night either. I guess all the waking up each morning for ADRs really got to me.

It was a GREAT time! It was better in the morning, though. The afternoon filming was a joke. It was quite the experience.

WOW! That is so cool! What a fun way to spend a Saturday! I'm looking forward to seeing the pics after you figure out how to post them!

Guess what! UGH! I missed the Christmas train. I was thinking about it today and for some reason I thought it was comeing late Sept ,so I looked and nope it was here (well near) over labor day weekend. NO way could've I have gone up then anyways. It was probably the only weekend/ dyas I couldn't go see it anyway. But such a bummer to miss it.

If you're talking about the stop it made at Greenfield Village? It was crazy busy there! We waited the first morning for an hour and a half and when we finished the line was double what we waited in! I can't imagine how bad it must have been the rest of the weekend! I told my DD they needed a fast pass machine :rotfl: It was very cool though and the movie looks amazing!

Sorry about the hijack :)

Yep., thats the one we would've been to. I'm glad we missed the lines then. LOL!

Thanks for your reflections! :grouphug:

I am thankful I didn't lose anyone. Both my cousins made it out of NYC and home, safe & sound.

I do, however, know of, a few people who lost their loved ones. My heart ached for those families and attending the funeral was very very difficult.

It was difficult being on campus as the FBI took several computers. Apparentely, some of those horrid people (I'm trying to be nice here) were on our campus and used our computers to buy airline tickets. *shudders*

I am grateful that we can all come together at least once day a year as a nation, as a global world and pray nothing ever ever ever happens like this again.

:littleangel:

mmm...Kona :) I'm getting hungry just thinking about it.

I'm quite excited to be eating there. I can't wait to get some Kona coffee!! I made a reservation that is supposed to include my friend, her mom and hopefully, my bff and her mom. Who knows until the day of? :confused3 Maybe it will be a good thing to have the coffee all to myself!

That is awesome - quite the once in a lifetime moment!!! :thumbsup2

Thanks! I'm was able to figure out how to get the pictures from my phone to Twitter and then save them from Twitter to my hard drive. It was difficult! :lmao: Really, there has to be a better way.

I don't know how fun it was, but it was definitely an experience. After I came home, I slept 12 hours. After waking up pre-dawn daily for ADRs :surfweb: and then this, I was just exhausted.

My once in a lifetime quotient with Rob is pretty good - I'm in his movie (not released) and I think I'm in his DVD, Live from Red Rocks. :thumbsup2

Here's the pics!

Oh no!! :guilty:

If your stop was busy, I cannot imagine what mine is going to be like! *groan* I'm debating on whether to go to Philly to see the train and skip the Grand Central stop.

I really want to see it. Ugh, I'll make a decision as time gets closer. I'll mark it on my calendar! I'll take lots of pics and send them over to you.
