VERY interesting..Disneys 40% vs "David's Vacation Club"

This is incorrect. There are no DVC studios that sleep more than 4+infant, even if you are a member.

Only 1 BRs have 5+infant as the occupancy limit. And for member reservations, that would be all 1 BRs - either the ones with the legitimate occupancy limit of 5 (because they have a sleeper chair) or those with the limit of 4 with your own air mattress.

For those booking these through Disney reservations (not David's rental service), the occupancy in a 1 BR w/o the sleeper chair is only 4+infant, the same as a studio.

I believe the AKV Deluxe Studios at Jambo House have a King, a sleeper sofa, and a sleeper chair and are listed as an occupancy of up to 5. Please correct me if I'm wrong, but I think I read this last summer when we were booking our AKL trip.

I am not aware of any studios with a sleeper chair. If there are some, then yes, I guess that would change my statement.

Added: I did a little more research and can't find any evidence of sleeper chairs in the studios, only the non-value category 1 BRs or bigger. I don't think those rooms are big enough. There is also no DVC category such as "deluxe" for AKV-Jambo - just value, standard, savannah, and club level. What you are describing (since it has a king bed) sounds like a 1 BR. Studios do not have king beds.

Here is the link to the cost chart from Mousesavers which lists a value studio and a deluxe studio as two separate categories. The value studios are formerly regular rooms that were converted to DVC (2 Queens.) http://www.mousesavers.com/animalkingdomvillas2011.html

You are correct about the category, however, I misread it. The rooms with a King, Sleeper Sofa, and Sleeper Chair and 1 bedrooms, not studios. Sorry!

That might be Disney's (not DVC's) marketing terminology - calling everything that's not value a deluxe room! The DVC point charts don't use that word, just the 4 categories I stated above.

No biggie - I just wanted to clarify as best as possible for others thinking about renting a DVC reservation.

There also has to be availability, right? Unless I am missing something about David's service, he must call Member Services just like I do...friends of mine would have been happy to rent points. I checked and there weren't any studios available at the Boardwalk when we were going so they are either stay at the Swan next door or paying cash at the Boardwalk...

First off there are DVC studios that sleep 5 (w/o an air matress). Second, the DVC Studio rooms are the same as the regular rooms, so if you are going to bring do the air matress route you could either way. 3rd, if you don't want the kitchen you could always book 2 studios. 2 studios is cheaper than a 2 bedroom.

There are DVC ONE BEDROOMS that sleep five, but no studios.

The DVC One Bedrooms that sleep five are BLT, OKW (renovated rooms), AKL (some one bedrooms, but not the values). BCV, BWV and VWL did not make their rooms large enough to fit the sleeper chair in and do not look like they are likely to get the sleeper chair during renovations (BWV just got renovated with no sleeper chair). I can't remember if SSR is getting the sleeper chair or not.

Note that MOST DVC studios are a Queen bed and a full pullout. OKW has two queens. The DVC pullouts are pretty comfy - but not everyone likes them.

If you want to sleep five, your studio options are most, but not all Deluxe resort studios or POR with a trundle bed room.

DVC rentals can be a great deal - but you need to value the difference - and its a subjective value. Daily housekeeping - for some people its a big deal, for others it isn't (it can be purchased). Ability to rebook and get "free dining" if its announced and is a better deal - not available. Private transaction which does carry some (not a lot, IMHO) risk. For me, a big one, much more onerous cancellations policies and much less flexibility once the vacation is booked - its much harder to add a night or move a week with a rental. Also, I've been a member for years, and while I think its a good value, I'm one that believes the customer service is not there for members (or their guests and renters) like it is for cash guests.

And those aren't even studios (which I know crisi knows) but resort rooms. The studios terminology is DVC rooms - which as we have covered (ad nauseum) don't sleep 5.

You are correct. My mistake. We never stay in a studio and I was really excited when DVC started offering rooms w/an occupancy of 5, but they are 1 bdrms.

I've been a BWV owner for about a dozen years, and I remember when there were studios that had an extra 'bench' in them. They would book five into those rooms. I think they called the room a 'studio plus'?

I had one of these on two of my trips. I was curious just now so I checked allears and they list them on their fact sheet as a studio with daybed. That site states that the room will hold 4 adults, 1 child small enough to sleep on the daybed and a child under 3. I can tell you that nobody in our room slept on this bench - the cushion was pretty thin and we were usually a party of 3, but the option did exist. Not sure if they still have these?

Just going by things posted here, I think some of the BWV studios might have those, but they don't book 5 in those either, as far as I know. I have not heard that terminology though about studio plus. I agree, I've heard it described as more of a bench for seating than a daybed.

They've stopped booking them as a reservation category. You may still get them by luck of the draw, but they still only sleep four.
