I just called the reservations hotline and I am really :scared1: I told them that I would need one room with a king size bed since there would be 4 traveling. He quoted me a price of $2960 for the Coronado Springs- 2 standard rooms. I then proceeded to ask him if I have a King size bed , was I not able to get a free connecting room.:confused3 I think that he thought I was crazy:lmao: because he said he had never heard of that! Has anyone booked a room with a ---- room? He then proceeded to offer me a junior suite for about $4000. I thanked him kindly and hung up:idea:

He said the packages were coming out the end of July to book completely, and he could only offer me the room rate (thank goodness because I would have to take out a second mortgage for the whole package:lmao: ). I really don't think he has much experience because he told me that it could be that time of year and that was why it was so expensive. HELLO, its the end of January first week of February!!!

I don't know maybe I'm wrong:rolleyes: but it did seem quite pricey. I have seen the rooms at moderate resorts for $149. If anyone knows anything about the ---- room question please let me know.

THANKS

Buy a room get a room? Not hardly. if you want a room with a K size bed, you must book that particular category and yes, they are more expensive than a standard room with 2 dbls or 2 Qs usually. I also want to say the K rooms are either limited to 2 or 3 people anyway.

I have never heard of booking a K room and getting a free connecting room.

I'm sorry I may have mispoke what I expressed to him was there were 4 traveling and one was handicapped and I asked him of a ---- connecting room because I will have a wheelchair, hoyer etc. I also HAVE read on these boards of people receiving a connecting ----. room but that you have to ask, they will not volunteer that info.

I am sorry you took it all :confused3 so personal!

I do not believe that the 2009 room rates are out yet. You can book a room before the rates are out and Disney will make the reservation at the highest available rate and then adjust the rate downward thereafter (if necessary) when the rates are finalized for the year. As for a ---- room, are you talking about a free extra room at no charge? If so, I believe you are mistaken. You can get, subject to availability, a connecting room for disability reasons, but be assured you will have to pay for both rooms.

When we book our HC room we tell central reservations we need a HC room and how many people we have travelling in our party, sometimes we get a HC room that has two beds and sometimes we get a HC room with a single bed and then they give us the connecting room. We have never asked for the connecting room and they have always accommodated us, which is amazing to me because WDW is the only place we ever travel that ever gets this right.

Thanks!

So when I call I should tell them #in our party which is 4 and that I need a roll in shower!

I know the rates for 2009 have not been released to the public yet. As for the "---- room", you have to talk to a reservationist, tell them your medical needs, how many are traveling with your party and then they discuss the pricing issue. Sue probably knows so much more than me on this. I know they accomodate you, but I am not sure how to ask or go about it.

I understand what you are talking about though, you are not crazy, you are just talking about needing a king room because of the disability issues, but having 4 people traveling in your party.

Yes

In my case I tell them for example: " I need a garden view room at the Polynesian from Sept 1 till Sept 8 for 2 Adults and 2 Children ages 9 and 7 and will need a Handicapped Accessible room with a roll in shower"

Betty, if you are talking to me, we are going in October and probably in March for ESPN weekend, then again in June for Star Wars Weekend.

I am so glad those pictures helped. I was hoping that they could show people that Disney is very doable in a wheelchair. YAY!!!

Bill's parents have a conference in Orlando in January, I am trying to see if they want company :lmao:.

I know rates aren't out yet but I did book a campground site thru FW and was quoted a price of about 100.00 bucks for next year...goodness I hope the rates aren't as back as they seem right now.

That's the best way to do it. The reservations CM will check with Special Reservations to see what is available at that resort for those dates that meets your needs.

Depending on just how the room is set up, one room with a roll in shower may be able to sleep 4 people - there are some rooms at some resorts set up with 2 beds in the room. Those rooms would be able to sleep 4.

Some roll in shower rooms are set up with one King bed and only sleep 2 people. If you have 2 people, they will expect you both to sleep in the bed (after all, they have provided sleeping space for 2 people). You could also get a rollaway bed for the 2nd (or 3rd person, if there are 3 in your party).
When you have more than 3 people, there is no way to make space for all 4 in a roll in shower room with a King size bed. That is when people get '----ed' for the second room. That is fair, because if you had not needed a roll in shower, you would have enough beds for 4 people in one standard room.
You don't ask for it though; hotels are required to provide it under these circumstances. If you ask, you will likely get charged for a King room and a connecting room. Since not all King rooms are wheelchair accessible, you have a good chance of just getting a regular King room by requesting a King.

:thanks: :disrocks: :dumbo:

But, are they required to provide a King room? There is no way to put four people in a King room, roll in shower or not. If you have four people in your party, can they put you in at HC room with two double beds and not ---- a connecting room?

In other words, if you specify a King room (which cannot hold 4 people) do they still have to comp a connecting room, given that no 4 people (regardless of disability) could be accommodated in a King room?

yes.
If the room the way it is set up sleeps 4 people and will meet the requirements for wheelchair accessibility (which is basically in the bathroom and 3 feet of access through the room and around a bed).
If you need beds for 4 people and accessibility and they can provide it in one room, they don't have to ---- a connecting room.
It could be that they don't actually have any wheelchair accessible rooms with roll in showers that can sleep 4 people; that is what you need and that is what you have to get.
In other words, if you specify a King room (which cannot hold 4 people) do they still have to ----- a connecting room, given that no 4 people (regardless of disability) could be accommodated in a King room?
No.
Because the room type you have requested only holds 2 people (maybe 3 with a roll away - and there are people who have posted on this board that they were accommodated that way).
Once you have made a request for a King room, you fall under the same situation as anyone else (with a disability or not). If you are requesting a room that does not have enough beds for your whole party, it's not the hotel's responsability to provide enough beds. It's your responsibility to reserve 2 rooms because you have chosen an option that doesn't meet the number of people for one room.

It's easiest to think of it not as rooms, but as beds. How many beds to you need as edcrbnsoul suggested?

In my case I have been to AKL and had a single room with 2 beds for the 4 of us and on another trip I stayed at POR and ended up with the adjoining room both times I made the reservation exactly the same way as I stated above, I did not ask for or expect to get the adjoining room.

I'm going back down this Nov and staying at the WL and will take which ever room(s) they have to accommodate us.
