unfortunately it looks like i will have to sell our dvc timshare. (messy divorce). does anybody know the first thing about how i do this and if there are any costs to me. can i sell it privately or do i need to go to a broker. thanks for the info.

I can't help, but can express my sympathy. Hope everything goes smoothly for you.

I bought through the re-sale market from Jaki Apetz at Atimeshare. I liked her quite a bit.

I'm very sorry to hear this. If you look at the heading of this page, you'll see all sorts of info about The Timeshare Store. They have an excellent reputation and should be able to help you.

In addition to The Timeshare Store and A Timeshare Broker, you can also try to sell it privately. You can check out Timeshare Users Group (TUG), which supports a classified ad area of their site where you can list your timeshare yourself. Another online resource for placing an ad is Timesharing Today.

For Sale posts are NOT allowed on the site here, however.

Remember that DVC will have Right of First Refusal, so if you sell it privately, they will have to review the offer.

A private sale can certainly allow for a higher return for you with no broker fees, but sometimes a broker can help you find a buyer more quickly and handle all of the details.

Good Luck!

DOC gave a great summary. I would add that the commissions exacted by these brokers are STEEP. However, as with the selling of a private home, it requires more time and energy to sell on your own.............

Given that it's more of a BUYER'S market right now, you might be better served to have one of you assume the DVC membership as part of your overall settlement.

Good Luck,

Agree with Docs list of brokers and/or places to list the sale.

Do not list with any broker that requires a up front listing fee.
