Very Confused...

In January 2014 I booked a December 2014 trip online requiring 106 points. I just noticed yesterday when I received the Member newsletter email that my 2013 Use Year is showing 129 available points yet my 2014 Use Year only shows 69 available points. It appears that the points for this upcoming trip pulled from the 2014 Use Year. I have booked online before and it always took from the current available points and then borrowed from upcoming years. Has anyone else had a "glitch" like this. I will be calling Member Services in the morning but worry about getting the points straightened out. I would certainly use the points that expire first before using the future points and I would like to think the system wouldn't pull points when there are current points. Feeling frazzled..... any thoughts....

Unless you had banked your 2013 points, the system would use points for the UY current for the trip dates- which for a December 2014 trip would be 2014 UY regardless of which UY month you own. Hope that makes sense.

Translation- you need to bank your 2013 UY points before you can use them for a 2014 UY reservation. If you call in to MS, they can do this all in one phone call. I just did it last week-banked my final 25 2013 points and the MS agent incorporated them into my fall 2014 reservation, and freed up 2014 UY points previously slotted to that reservation, on the same call.

The system doesn't automatically use the older points first if you haven't already banked them. This is because the system cannot know if you are planning another trip during your 2013 UY-and once you bank the 2013 points you cannot "un-bank" them back to 2013. Therefore you always have to elect to bank before the system will use current UY points on a reservation in the subsequent UY.

A December 2014 trip would be in the 2014 UY for every single UY. You would have needed to bank your 2013 points in order to use them for that trip. If you are still able to bank your 2013 points (I don't think you said what your UY is) then you can do that and call MS and ask them to reallocate the banked points for 2014 points so that you can use up the banked points before the current points.

I agree with everyone else...it sounds like you did not bank your 2013 UY points prior to making the 2014 trip.

It should be an easy fix for MS...what I would do is bank those points first, then give MS a call, send an email, or try the online chat feature, and ask them to adjust.

If you ended up borrowing any 2015 UY points when you made the reservations, those will not be put back so make sure that what is freed up is your 2014 UY points.
