Very basic question....

We are in the final stages of deciding to make a purchase at AKV. My question is we have been offered a Sept. or Aug. UY and I know I will want to book a room for Oct. 2008 at the 11 month mark. Will my 2008 points be automatically applied to that reservation even though they won't be available to me until Aug. or Sept.? I have to USE my 2007 points before Aug. or Sept., correct? Those aren't the ones that would be used to book the Oct. 2008 trip, right?

Aug or Sept 2007 points can be used through Aug or Sept 2008. Or you can bank them and use them into the following use year as well.


Although others have reported otherwise, every time I ever book under this scenario, MS banks them during my reservation phone call and uses them for the next trip as opposed to using the following UY points to book.

They are supposed to always use the oldest points first, but it never hurts to confirm with them that this is what you are doing. One of our UY's is August and it always works well for us..but we tend to book in a variety of months for our trips.

Yes.

With a September use year, your 2008 points are good for stays that occur between 9/1/2008 and 8/31/2009.

You do not have to wait 2008 to make the reservation. You can call 11 months prior to checkout, which for an October 2008 vacation would be sometime in November 2007. If you don't have any 2007 use year points that you want to bank, MS will use the 2008 points to make the reservation.

You can always call 11 months prior to check out for a home resort reservation - use year doesn't matter when figuring out when to make a reservation.

If it helps, just tell yourself that the points for all of your years (until 2057 for AKV) are already in your account. If there are still points available in the use year that matches your stay, then you can call to make the reservation (subject to the 11 / 7 booking rules).
