Vertigo weeks after disembarking

This! Been on 14 cruises and I only used the patch once as I had terrible withdrawal symptoms. Thought I had a brain tumor two weeks after we had been on land- turns out it was a bad reaction to the patch. My regiment now a days is Bonnie starting two days before a cruise and each day on the ship.

I swore off cruising for good after that patch experiment. Too many awesome cruises spoiled by seasickness. It just wasn’t worth it and that patch withdrawal was the last straw. Fast-forward ten years and I started reading about Bonine and decided to give cruising one more try. I’ve done two cruises now with the Bonine and - knock on wood - haven’t gotten sick. I start it before the trip, as well.

We knew DH is prone to this reaction so we always stay a few days after the cruise instead of getting directly on the plane to return home. He doesn't have to take the Dramamine if we do this.

My daughter had to go to the doctor post cruise and was put on an anti-histamine. Doctor told she should have taken an anti-histamine before the cruise and she'd probably be find. After 2 weeks post-cruise on the anti-histamine she was fine.

Seasickness after a cruise typically lasts a couple of days. Most people experience sea legs for only a few minutes after disembarkation. Over-the-counter medications like Benadryl or Dramamine can help with motion and land sickness. Some doctors may prescribe more potent drugs like Valium.

This happened to me in 2018. Two days before my 5 night Bermuda Cruise on the Magic I was diagnosed with Lupus. I had been taking prednisone a month before for that. So I wasn’t feeling allergies or taking my allergy medicine.

Long story short I ended up with water in my ear and had vertigo for a month.

This has happened to me twice now, neither time after a cruise, but after riding coasters at Disneyland. A simple maneuver can knock the crystals back into place and now I know how to do it myself at home.

You can look up how to do it on You Tube. It's called the Epley Maneuver. It's worth a try...it won't cause any harm if that's not what is causing the dizziness, but it may make it go away. Importantly, stay upright for 12 hours after doing this maneuver.
My husband had surgery that didn't go quite as planned. I think moving him about, got the crystals out of whack. After surgery, he was in no shape to be moving about like that, but it did go away about a month after. It lessened bit by bit.
