VERTIGO...and a cruise...

We are getting ready to cruise on the magic in less than 3 weeks and my mom has just been diagnosed with vertigo (moderate to severe dizzy spells). She has been given medication to help this along, but I was wondering if anyone else who suffers from it can tell me if the movement of the ship makes it worse or not...

I know from my cruise last year that we hardly felt any movement at all, but I am wondering if the vertigo would make her more sensitive to it... (luckily, we are on Deck 2)...

My parents went with my DH and me on our last cruise in October. My father has really bad Vertigo -- he can't even ride Small World without getting sick. His doctor gave him three different kinds of medication -- patches, pills, and suppositories. She said that between the three, he should be fine on the cruise. The important thing was that he start his medication a day or two before he left for the trip. He ended up only using the patches and didn't have a problem at all onboard. In fact, he had such a good time, they are going with us again on the Repositioning Cruise next May. He's already told his doctor that he is putting his order in early for his meds.

I am sure your mom will do just fine. If she doesn't take her medication, it could prove to be a problem. Just make sure she takes it! lol . . .

I started meds two days before and was fine on all 4 of my past cruises. My difficulties have come once Im off the ship!! I continue to "rock and roll" for weeks afterwards. Nothing I can't handle, just makes walking an adventure Never got sick and nothing that interrupted my fun. Have a great time
