At a minimum, I'm guessing that the water damaged that was just repaired will have to be re-done. I'm holding my breath that the structures held up this time like they did in Frances.

www.palmbeachpost.com has a lot of submitted photos from all around the area. Many from the barrier island of Hutchinson Island (below Vero) and from Orchid Island (where the Disney resort is located) are pretty sobering. I've included a link to a pretty scary shot of a waterfront home near the Disney resort

Multi-Million Dollar Home

 OMG...thanks for posting those links Pam. My Aunt and cousins live in Jensen Beach :( . We haven't been able to get a hold of them...it took us forever to find them after Francis! I'm just so bummed out for everyone in Florida.

I hate to be a pessimist but it doesn't bode well for VB Resort! I sure hope all our friends here on the dis who live in the area are OK! How sad...poor Florida!

Well we got a letter from Vero Beach saying that they sustained minimal damage on 09/04 and were closed for a brief period and re-opened 09/20, but there were still two portions closed down (think they were both restaurants).

Don't know how they fared with the most recent storm though.

Thanks for the link. The one positive about the home picture is it says that the home was badly damaged by Frances first. I think most of the damage done by Frances to the resort was cosmetic.

I do think they will have to redo all the work they just did.

Very sad for the resort. Even sadder for all those in the area. I really feel for the castmembers who have homes in the area.

My son was at Disney Vero on Thursday. The pirate ship are was closed, the glass enclosed section of shutters was also closed. The boardwalk going down to the beach was closed and there was tons of debris on the beach. The sand dunes were washed away and it was unstable. He also said one of the beach cottages was close to the edge. I expect they sustained more damage again.

The Vero paper is reporting that it will probably be longer than it was with Frances (36 hours) before residents and business owners are allowed back out to the barrier island. Reports are that the Ocean Grill came through okay again. Gloria Estefan's new resort has significant damage including walls blown out. One official also mentioned how two houses could be devastated and the one in-between is okay.

It sounds like the primary concern is very heavy flooding -- roads are impassable. Folks at the resort have to be dead tired from the effort they put in the first go-round. Let's hope they get a second wind and tackle this challenge as well.

www.tcpalm.com has info from the local news outlets but you need to set up a password to read the full stories.

My parents have a house in Vero Beach that sustained minor damage during Frances. It took them almost 2 weeks to get the info becausetheir neighbors had no power and just got it back about a week ago. Now they are awaitng word again. Their development sustained a lot of damage last time. My parents were lucky. Thier neighbor's daughter tried to get in yesterday but the development was under water and she could get in. Thanks for the tcpalm info. I'll check it out.

Just horrific the damage that people have suffered during this hurricane season. (And they say this season is "normal").

I'm hoping this link works. It should take you to www.palmbeachpost.com at the point of a photo of damage to the Driftwood Resort in Vero. A few photos back is some major washout of the Ocean Drive in Vero. Overall, there are some pretty sobering area photos on this site. Flooding seems very bad this time around.

Having volunteered to help with flood cleanup in the past, my heart goes out to those who must face the destruction. Even those whose homes sustained "ONLY" water damage are in for some awful duty. It is especially heartbreaking to hear about seniors who have lost everything and have no way to start over.

Here is a post Jeanne pic of the VB Boardwalk and Wabasso Beach Park:

and the Beach Report issued by IRC on Sept. 27th.

"FDEP Reference Monument R-40 – Wabasso Beach Park experienced about a 25 foot dune retreat, undermining the parking lot and destroying the beach bathroom facilities"

It's hard to see the resort in the picture, but for the most part it looks like all of the Beach Cottages made it through...

Thanx for the report, mbhoxsie. That is the only solid news we have so far.
You must have eagle eyes to see the cottages! I can sorta see one or two, but can't tell if there's damage.

Thanx again for the info!

No eagle eyes here, but maybe I should rephrase my statement... :teeth:

"The beach cottages appear not to have fallen into the ocean.." ::yes::

So far.. So good...

I was actually quite suprised to even come up with that picture.. After Frances, almost no information was available..
