happy new year everyone.... i have a question i was hoping for help with....
we have fallen in love with the resort at hilton head as a family and cant describe how warm and dear the memories we have had there are to us as a family....(the live oaks, the cast members, shannon tanner at shelter cove, dolphin cruises, just the SMELL of the pines and the sea, just RELAXING and taking in the beauty of the low country life .... its heaven on earth to us :) )
we are contemplating an august journey to disneys vero beach resort and are wondering if those of you have been to both can tell us if you get the same similiar feeling when you are at vero as you do at hilton head in regards to pure charm and reclusiveness....????
the kids (11,13,15,16) love it as much as we do and usually go to many of the resort activities and just soak it all in... whats your opinion of it comparing to the magic of hilton head???? thanks in advance.....:sunny:

I can't compare since I haven't been to HHI. I do love Vero. I just wanted to mention that August is extremely warm in southern Florida. Since the resort is right on the ocean it might not be too bad there but it will be very warm as soon as you get inland.

We were just at Vero Beach for a couple nights. It was quiet as it was mid-December. My experience was wonderful. The CMs go the distance to make your stay fun. There were a lot of activities offered, but it was a short, adults-only trip, so we didn't partake.
Like Pam, I have never been to HH, but I don't think you'll regret a stay at Vero Beach
Good Luck with your decision. Sandie

The comparison between HHI and VB ends with the Atlantic Ocean. HHI is a well established family vacation spot that swells to 1 million visitors each summer. To support that peak level of travelers, the area has developed a significant infrastructure and it appeals to a wide demographic. In contrast, VB is much more of a residential community possesing far fewer amenities for the family seeking a variety of vacation alternatives.

That said, we enjoy the VB area and will gladly return to the resort in the future. Simply put, on balance, we are much more impressed with HHI than VB.

Vero and HH are both welcoming, laid back beach resorts. HH is my home resort but since becoming a member I've visited both Vero and HH each year, Vero in Sept/Oct and HH in April/May.

Generally I travel with adults, so I can't tell you what's available for children. Vero is a relaxed setting, self-contained, with two restaurants, a bar w/ entertainment nightly (children welcome), and the beach just steps away from the pool area. If you want to, you can go to VB and never leave the resort.

Hilton Head, you already know, is magical for the texture of the landscape ~ live oaks, marsh, two pools, fabulous beach. The bicycles also add to HH's charm because it's a pleasant place to ride and explore. From these boards people seem to talk about more activites at HH than at Vero, but this is just my impression.

One is not better than the other; they are just different. The last time I visited HH, I came home and added on points. It was so beautiful.

Try Vero. I think you'll like it. Both resorts are relaxing and fun. I did read in the latest VM that Vero has added yoga classes?! Sounds good to me.

We own at both HH and VB. I find HH much more relaxing. At VB, you have a tremendous amount of activity at the pool area, and the beach, when kids are out of school. The beach at VB may, depending on what the storms and tide have done, be much narrower than at HH. Also, VB has the large (5 story) hotel type area and has all the lodging located much closer together than HH. Further, VB is more commercial, with the restaurant open to the public, convention rooms, etc.

As previously mentioned, I also think there is more to do on HH Island, as they have a tremendous infrastructure. VB is actually well north of Vero Beach, in a generally residential area. You have to drive to get to shops, etc while you can just walk across the bridge at HH.

We love VB for the winter sun and the walks on the beach, but our kids are grown and gone, and we generally don't go to VB when it is crowded.

We have been to both and you can't go wrong with either resort. At VB you actually don't have to leave the resort if you don't want to. You can walk from 1 end of the VB resort to the other in 5 minutes. The ocean is right there behind the resort.

At HH you have to drive to the beach. You have a lot more restraunts, shops, etc closer at HH than VB. If golf is an intrest of yours HH has many courses.HH during July and August can be extremely hot and humid.

IMO I find VB more relaxing and self contained compared to HH.

We go to both, Vero in the winter and HH in Spring, Summer or Fall. We love both. My kids are 11 & 6 and I think Vero actually has more activities at the resort than HH. They have a number of activities for teen's. I would recommend that you try it out. I can't say which we like more, except that HH is considerably closer to us. We don't like to stay at the Inn when we are at HH, but love the Inn when at Vero (we haven't tried anything else so far at Vero).

We have been to both HH and VB and love both resorts. Our children say they like HH more, but I believe it's because we rent bikes and bike together as a family. At HH, I want to go and do so many things on the Island and shopping off of the island. At VB, we really relax! We do usually leave the resort to eat, but I would be perfectly happy to never leave the resort during a short stay. As others have stated, try it - you'll probably like it as much as HH.

I can't really make the comparison since I haven't been to HHI, but my family gets the same feeling we when arrive at VB...

The sound of the ocean, the hammocks, the palm trees.. Just love it... :)

The CMs go out of their way to make you feel at home...

VB is pretty self contained and we usually don't leave the resort unless its to do some shopping... (For the most part, anywhere you go from VB requires a car..)

VB has a large list of daily activities that I would imagine are pretty close to HHI's...

I would tend to think that VB might be a more relaxing trip than HHI, but I really don't think you can go wrong with either one...

My family is contemplating a trip to HHI next fall... So I will probably be making a comparison myself then as well.. ;)

many thanks for all of your much appreciated opinions.... i think were going to do it (vero) first week in august:Pinkbounc !!!! we like these off siters because we really do the resort activiities, rent movies, play games, cards, have great snacks, sleep in and are a family...... hilton head has given us that and it has that slower low country carolina charm which has made it a nice destination for us... as a sports driven, family in these hectic times we NEED dvc a few times per year just to reconnect lol... thanks a bunch.... any fave buildings to cross our fingers for at vero beach for a 2 bedroom? (by the way we love 22 24 and 29 at hilton head island..just our personal preference :) ) thanks again everyone!

All of the buildings are great, and are not far at all from the action...

We have stayed in bldg's 12 and 14... Usually I try and request something on the 3rd Floor with an oceanview..

Building 14 is close to the main building, the pool, Eb & Flo's, the beach, and the Community Hall..
