Hi all - 3 yr DVC members, first real Vero trip (I went for two nights with a friend to watch Spring Training)
Two families - we are members, they are not.
Overall - I loved the resort, the setting, the beach was awesome, the decor, the condition of the room and of the public areas, most of the staff, etc. It certainly stands up as a wonderful place in the DVC community. It is the perfect compliment to HH - another beach resort option which is sort of similar, yet very different. We will go there again.
We won the turtle lottery and saw one. Amazing experience!
Some points from the dark side---
1. Music - I now know the word to the entire Tarzan soundtrack and the Top 10 Beach Boys songs. It was the same music playing in February. After the third day, when my kids, my friends, and my friends's kids, and the people around us at the pool and at dinner commented, I knew I was onto something. I spoke to one of the managers about it. Disney only lets them play that music. It is ridiculous.
I know that the background music is very similar and unique to each resort. I cannot make the connection between Tarzan and the beach.
We all started singing Surfin USA when it played for the 80th time during the week. at our table of 10 on the last night - it was very funny!
At least I know the soundtrack for my CD album from the trip!
2. Check in - as discussed earlier - very rough. The other cash paying family had a confirmed ocean view and was given dumpster view. Their rooms were not ready until 5:30. The alternative was a room at WDW?!?!
Our room was perfect - but it was not ready until 5:45.
3. Pool Staff/Lifeguards - I am spoiled by the smaller size of HH. The guards and rec staff knew my kids by the end of the second day. At Vero, the guards do not smile - ever!
On the other hand, Mary and Taz are standouts from Shutters. Excellent service.
A few folks were kind of anal. The soda mugs include coffee. My wife had her soda mug and asked that the coffee be poured into a ceramic mug. The person responded that the policy only permitted the coffee to be poured into the soda cup. This person was by the book on every issue. C'mon guys, we're on vacation - we are the temporary-until 2042- owners of this place.
A very un-Disney-esque response!!!
4. Grills - discussed earlier also - terrible location - too far from the Inn to be of use.
Anyway, our Disney summer continues - three weeks until the wife and kids head for their seventh cruise and three weeks after that, we head to OKW for our first weeklong visit. I am looking forward to that in a BIG way.
Good flights, great weather (almost too hot!), and good adventures to remember ---
Take care!

. By day three at Vero, my wife and I are going absolutely bananas. I enjoy themed resort music, and I'm glad they chose beach themed music, but a little variety sure would be nice!
