Question for those of you who have been down there very recently in the stormy weather. Is the beach completed messed up right now? On the VB main thread from a few of the posts it seems like the erosion has ruined the beach or what's left of it. Any observations? Thanks.

Was there last week. Not enough beach to do much but walk along.
Maybe better this week?
We were involved in the chair swamp, but couldn't use them.
Still a beautiful place.

Here's what it looked like this morning at 9:40 am looking north

Not bad at all. It could be worse. We could be at home working. A bad day at the beach is better than a good day at work IMHO.:cool1:

Thanks for the info AND the photos. Doesn't look to bad to me at all. At least we still have the pool :goodvibes

:sad1: Man, it looks like you are having great waves even at 9 am. Wish I was there. Have a great rest of your visit.

Hi 50 Years Too! I see that you took part in a chair swap, sorry to hear you couldn't use them. I'm going this Saturday and am also involved in a chair swap. I plan on tipping the cast member at the desk for getting/returning the chairs. Problem is I have no clue how much to give them. :confused3
Anyone care to give me an idea of what I should tip?
Thanks.

Thank you for the VB pictures...they really make me homesick!

The beach was good to sit at. If you love looking for shells then you will have a blast. There was a rip curent. We were there from Mon - Wed Night this week weater was great cant wait to go back in July.

Beach looks good to me.

I'm getting so excited we'll be arriving there on the 25th.

Dort, keep those chairs in good shape, I'm next in line to use them.:rotfl: Sorry, no clue either about the tip, maybe $5..

Got you covered Ginger!!
Leave tomorrow at noon, hope to be beach side by 5 pm!!  can't wait!!:yay:
Yea, i was thinking about $5, well worth it, too expensive to rent every day!!

Okay, what is the chair swap and how do I find out about it? We will be at Vero for our first time for Easter weekend.

I am sure for that busy time of year we will need all the help we can get.

Just back tonight! We met a few people from Kentucky this week. We walked the beach everyday since Monday. The ocean was certainly alot calmer by today. Thanks to the NJ people who said how they walked each day to the 2 tall trees, we did too! We also met another Dis'er there.

Rentals at VB and HHI can be pretty expensive, especially if you are bringing a family. So some creative and time giving people have organized chair swaps in the past. This involves buying chairs, umbrella, and in Starbox's swap included boogie boards, and shipping them to the resort. Now, I have not been involved in a swap (we always have our car and our own stuff) so from this point on I am guessing, but the organizer keeps a reservation list and they split the cost of the purchased items between all the users. I believe a list is kept with the items so each person knows and informs the desk who is to receive the items next. How this is kept updated is beyond me, but it seems to work fine. Since the beach rentals at VB & HHI are handled by a 3rd party Disney doesn't seem to mind accomodating this process (storing and issuing).

Now I'm really guessing but, if you figure the cost for a 5 day stay using the rental rates from a few years ago.

Two chairs, umbrella, and two boogie boards for five days would cost $175. I doubt the cost to buy the items was that much and the cost was split between a dozen or so families. Let's say it was 15 families and the cost was $175... that would make the total cost at around $12 for the stay for each family.

I think crisi would be proud of my mathmatical natural deduction here. :)

So... This is not an Disney organized thing, but rather a DISboards member thing that is organized by someone motivated to take on the task. I think VB had three swaps going last year... two by starbox and one by another member, but I can't remember who.

Bottom line... PM starbox and see if she is planning to handle another next year, and if not, she surely will help you start one if you would like.

AND... now that I think it through.... no reason the items from this year's swap can't be used again next year. Talk to starbox... she'll know what you should do.

As sb would say... Yup, VB Rocks!
