We've never been to Vero Beach and last night we started tossing around the idea of going in late August. Don't even know if we can get reservations at the 7 month point :confused3 - but my teenage son and daughter (and husband as a matter of the fact) are concerned that there may be nothing to do except sit on the beach. We're active vacationers - is there a lot to do at the resort? What about the area around the resort?

Jamn our group really enjoys the resort but we love the beach. My teens, now young adults always found plenty of teen group activites, flag football, etc. All organized by the CM's. We have not been since summer of 2009 due to inability to get a ressie at 7 months in 2010. Someone can probably post a sample of an activity schedule you recieve on arrival and that would give you a good idea if its a good fit for your group.

We were at Vero this past July for 4 nights. We drove there after staying at Disney for 9 nights. Our kids at the time were dd 19, ds 16 and ds 11. Our dd was DONE on day 2. :confused3  Our teen son was happy on the beach and ds was fine too. They were all disappointed in the pool. It was WARM every day...like bathwater warm. I guess that is common in the summer. The staff is older at this resort and it is "just different" than being at the Disney resorts. At least it was too us. They played the little miniature golf course several times. My teen son went to the gym every day and we all hung out listening to Bernie in the Green Cabin Room at night. We liked that. Even the kids. LOL The entire time we FELT FAR AWAY FROM EVERYTHING. This can be good and BAD. We personally felt like you had to DRIVE a good ways to find decent restaurants. We got plenty of REST these 4 days...that is for sure. :thumbsup2

Would we go back??? The jury is still out for our family. We are going to try HHI the next time we want a Disney/Beach trip.

Yes, the staff inside the resort are certainly more mature in years but the recreation staff were always 20 somethings. As I mentioned we did not travel there this summer but in previous yrs, 10 in a row actually, the recreation staff seemed pretty stable. My boys remembered them by name and the staff remembered them.

But I agree if your a pool family on vacation the Vero pool is defineitely not refreshing very very warm.
