I just got off the phone with family in Vero Beach. My SIL tells me that it is not yet raining but the winds have kicked up. They wre actually out on their patio as they were talking. They still had phone and electrical power. They are about 5 miles inland and actually weathered Frances fairly well so they are staying for this one. My niece's school closed yesterday as they have used the schools for shelters previously and wanted to get ready. They have friends from Kansas visiting and they tried this morning to get a room at WDW and were told there absolutely no rooms available.
On a side note, we left WDW at 5:30 yesterday evening after a week's stay at OKW. We must have picked the one decent week for the month. We had a great stay and the parks were as quiet as they were in January on our last visit. The only rain we had to speak of was on Monday and that was only in the afternoon. We headed to the MK later that day and were told the next day by a CM that they rain chased so many away there were only 10,000 at all the parks combined. That was hard for me to believe.
OKW was in great shape. CMs very friendly. We had room 1835 and it was also in great condition. We headed to SSR to swim one day. It was so quiet when we went to look at the lobby there was no one but one CM present. Many rooms at both places appeared to be empty. Did have a small problem with mousekeeping on T & T day. This was our first stay in a studio and we had 4 bath towels when we checked in. On T & T day we left a $5 tip and a nice note of thanks. When we returned at 4:00 PM no one had yet been there. I called as we were going to dinner and I wanted to shower before. We had put all our dirty towels in the bathtub. The maid arrived 30" after the call. I went down to take out a load of laundry and when I got in the shower there were only 3 towels. It was a small problem but I was kind of irritated as she certainly picked up her tip. Other than that it was a great stay. We actually enjoyed our studio also. My DH said he couldn't ever see staying in one but we found 60 points we had forgotten we banked last year and were going to lose them in a couple of months so this was a bonus trip.
Also we went to the BWV (our home resort) on a couple of occasions. They actually had a GV empty so we got to see one as we have our first ressie for one in December. We went back on Thursday and they were repaving the front drive so part of circle drive was closed.
As usual, we didn't want to come home but at least we will be back in another 70 days.
