Vero Beach Resort

Wife and I are going in January. We're staying in a one bedroom unit. What can you tell me about the resort and the area. Thanks.

Pray for warm weather so you can a least go to the beach or use the pool, because there isn't a whole lot else to do there unless you like to drink.
On site restaurants are so-so at best. Be prepared to drive alot to get to off-site ones. If your an early riser you can get some very nice sunrises.

Vero Beach is a wonderful place to relax and get away from it all. The offsite rest aren't far at all and there are some great places to eat. The beach is nice to relax or walk on and the CM are really nice. Not every place needs to be fast pace like WDW to be enjoyed.

In Jan the temps average highs in the mid 70s so depending on were you're coming from it might be a bit cool to you. Otherwise, there certainly are other things to do in and around the VB resort. We're not really upscale restaurant goers, but we will usually once a visit get take-out from Sonya's/Shutters (they share the same kitchen) and for us it has always been excellent. Bleachers, the poolside grill is also excellent.

The VB resort provides daily activities for kids & adults with the best CMs of all the resorts.They have a heated pool & Lighthouse spiral waterslide, a REALLY cool water deck area for the real young kids, a hot tub/Jacuzzi, miniature golf, exercise room, ping pong, bike rentals, The Green Cabin Room (bar/restaurant) has 2nd floor covered deck that has a fantastic view of the ocean and is a nice place to relax with your favorite beverage. It also has live entertainment in the evenings. Some nights they have a campfire / s’more roast (bring the Cutter Advanced to fend off the No-see-ums). You can rent a small catamaran or jet-ski for ocean fun. Across the street they have a lake, picnic tables, the Jungle trail (8 mile hike/bike trail to Pelican Island), tennis courts, and basketball courts. Disney put a private tunnel under the road to access this area.

5 minutes away is Pelican Island National Wildlife Refuge and a wildlife education center. Just a few minutes further up the road is Sebastian Inlet State Park were the Indian River meets the ocean. There are many good fishing spots around the inlet, and there are river excursions where you can see dolphins, manatee, and tons of other types of wildlife. About an hour north is Port Canaveral, (where the Magic and Wonder dock), the Kennedy Space Center visitor complex, and Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge with walking and driving tours. 20 minutes south is McKee Botanical Garden (18 acres) with some REALLY cool vegetation and trees. 30 minutes south in Fort Piece is the Manatee Observation and Education Center.

Make sure you go into the actual town of Vero Beach for a dinner at the Ocean Grill - it's a beautiful spot set right on the beach overlooking the ocean. Another suggestion is Capt. Hiram's in Sebastian. Both are about 10 - 15 minutes from the resort. If you golf, make sure you play the Indian River Club.

Thanks for all the help. We're from Ohio so Mid 70's in the winter sounds great. Anyone know if they're planning on adding internet access to the rooms? Can you fish in the lake across the street?

Haven't heard anything about wireless in the rooms... sure wish they would though. I have never seen anyone fishing in the lake, but I have seen some sizeable fish in there. As I said earlier, Sebastion Inlet gets a lot of people there. It is just up the road from the resort, and you can get your temp license there too.

I would say it minimally qualifies as a lake. It does have a small pier on the north side.

I think you can barely makeout the pier on the right side.

This is the tunnel that takes you under the highway.

We have gone in mid Feb. Weather can be fickle that time of year but coming from upstate NY it seemed like summer to us! Pool, beach, all was good.

We just got back from 3 days at VB and it was fantastic. The CM were super nice, the restaurants were good, the pool was beautiful. We played mini golf and it was lots of fun. The exercise room was really nice. All in all it was really a wonderful and very relaxing time.

The best part about the resort is the lack of activity. It is very relaxing. We love to go there and just be lazy. No hustle or bustle. Restaurants are good. The beach is beautiful. The pool is great. The people are always great. Enjoy.

Yes, you can, we did. We got worms from bait shop we saw enroute, before going over bridge. You could call resort about renting rods or if they have them to loan like other things, I'm not sure, we were driving so took poles for the kids. I believe its a stocked pond so I think they intend for you to fish even though I would say its an easy thing to overlook on a Vero Beach stay.

They will be painting the exterior of the Inn and Villa buildings starting Sept. 17, 2007 and it should be completed sometime in Feb. 2008. There will be visible scaffolding. I received a letter from Disney Vacation Club Management notifying me of this due to an upcoming stay I have there during this time period. Not a big deal for me but may be for others.

For great and nearby offsite dining try Squid Lips. It is about 1/4-1/2 of a mile north of Captain Hirams. I've been to both restaurants and found Captain Hirams to be more of a tourist trap with food that was just okay. Squid Lips seemed to be more of a local place with really excellent food. In fact, we went there on the 11th and once our entrees arrived at the table the only words you heard from us were "mmmm" and "this is sooo good" and "wow this is yummy" or similar variations.

Yes, we caught some fish in the lake but not sure what sort of fish. It was clear by the doc so the kids could see the fish swimming around so often dropped the line right down and watched them take the bait.

I think there are regular unbrellas versus clam shells and there was a charge but we did not use so don't know the amount, you probably can find in a search. We bounce around too much to make renting the lounger and shade worth it. Good luck.

Hence, the thrust behind the chair swap. Disney does not handle the rentals. It is a 3rd party.

Edit: This is an old photo (4-5 years) so I think the price board was at the end of it's useful life. Also, maybe prices have gone up.
