Going to Vero beach. Just husband and self. Wondering about nightlife and dining. Any suggestions?

Anyone been there lately? How did Resort fare with hurricanes? How is it doing now?

How is weather mid April?

danabell618,

We were at VB last week. We didn't eat out at all and didn't go out for nightlife because we had four kids with us but I was surprised at how nice the resort appeared. The "County" was working on the beach right out front of the resort bring in dirt/sand to prevent further erosion. They worked from sun up to sundown bringing in sand. They should be finished when you get there because I'm sure the seaturtles will be arriving shortly.

Construction workers were also working on the boardwalk. Looked like they were just starting the project.

Beach access is at the south end of the resort.

The thing that stunned me the most was the drive to VB from Hwy. 1 to the resort. Driving over the causeway just took my breath away. The area is so stripped of the lush greenery. What devastation. If you've been to VB before you'll know what I mean when you're on top of the bridge looking toward VB and Orchid Island. The orange groves from Hwy. 1 to A1A suffered massive damage. Many trees are dead. A convenience store worker in Sebastian said he just got his roof repaired two weeks ago and was going to be getting his siding repaired within the week.

We had nice weather last week. It was 70's and 80's. Spent most of our time at the beach swimming and bodyboarding. Kids built a 'tiki hut' on the beach on the last day we were there with lumber from hurricane damage.

Thanks for the info. Have never been there before. Glad to know beach is okay for swimming. How's the pool?

We must have been there at the same time MsParrothead. We were there Sun - Wed.

The pool is great. My son will attest that the slide is great as he went down it 32 times in a row.

The pool is a lot of fun. Very festive atmosphere. :sunny:

We normally use the pool in the late afternoon after doing the beach thing all day. When the kids were younger though, the pool was where we spent most of our time.

I want a full report when you return!!! ;)

I'm also wondering about nightlife? What do you do at Vero at night with kids?

I won't disappoint you Desnik...I promise!

I'm not sure how much nightlife we'll have with three kids. It will probably be comprised of sitting on the balcony with DH and a few drinks while they are asleep. :smooth:

We're heading there in the summer and would love any info about restaurants, sports bars, nightlife. We are going with our kids 22-24 years of age. We took the to HH (DVC of course) last year and they loved the close proximity to the marina. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Captain Hiram's is a must for dinner! The food is excellent, the sand bar is great, and they have live entertainment..... Have a great trip :)

My husband and I were at VB for 5 nites in mid-March. The work that DVC has done to the resort after the hurricane is nothing short of remarkable! Carpet replaced, drapes replaced, flooring replaced, roofing, painted siding, repaired Shutters porch etc. The stay for us was wonderful! Here are our favorite dining places (adults - we didn't have any kids). Hardwood Grill (on US 1, only a couple of miles from resort), Tangos (in town), Camilles (sp?) on the mainland in a shopping center but really great food). Our all time favorite (Ellies) is no more. Also just past Captain Hirams is a place called Squid Lips that has good food too. Considering that many buildings are closed and unfit for occupancy, the Disney Resort came thru with flying colors! I especially liked the awesome view of the ocean with the vegetation so low. I know this won't remain as the sea oats will grow back and I know they need the dunes for sea turtle nesting, but in the meantime, the view is the best it has ever been.

Hi Bill...we're with you on the vacation thing...see you all there! Driving down or flying?

Our family makes it a point to stop in Vero or stay a night on each WDW trip. We always drive to Fort Pierce for Norris' Ribs. The address is 3080 N. Federal Hwy., which is 1A1. The restaurant has ribs which are some of the best I ever had. It is about a 30 minute trip from VB.

We were in Vero Beach last week. As previously stated, the resort is in great shape, but there is evidence of the hurricanes everywhere. Large trees are uprooted and broken. The only evidence of the hurricanes at the resort is the work being done on the beach. Access to the beach is now located at the southern end of the resort.
