I am looking into booking a 4day cruise in Sept 2003 and then 2 nights at Vero Beach. Any insights into the weather in Vero Beach that time of year?

Florida is still warm in September but you will have the ocean breeze that makes it much more comfortable than Orlando. Just like winter months up North always have the threat of snowstorms, September is a popular month for hurricanes. But, I wouldn't worry about that. You get notice of impending storms.

September can be iffy here in Florida. Most of the time the weather is very hot and humid with a daily thunder storm. September is the peak of hurricane season. While onboard the cruise you definitely will be taken away from any bad weather. While on shore (at Vero) you'd be notified of any impending storms approaching. We were at WDW a few years ago in September when a hurricane approached and it appeared would make land fall and come directly at the Orlando area. They closed the parks for a day and a half in anticipation. Luckily the storm turned north and missed us. The worst thing was being hotel bound for that period.

I have been at VB over Labor Day (Sun-Thurs) the last two years in a row. Weather was fine, though last year seemed hotter than the year before. I don't remember any rain, which doesn't mean there wasn't any, only that it didn't interfere with family fun.

Last year the noseeums ate me alive (all in one afternoon) and what I learned is that they are more active at certain temperatures. As a result we made reservations this year for early October, thinking the weather will still be nice and the temperature a bit cooler.

I wouldn't hesitate to go again in September, though, now that I know enough to get insect repellant.

As for hurricane possibilities -- we all know that anything can happen any time.
