We are going to Vero Beach/WDW Thanksgiving week and need some help from someone who has been there at that time of year. Does the resort rent wave runners and, if so, is the water temp ok for it? Do we need to make any restaurant reservations (staying at Vero Sunday the 18th through the 21st)? Do they have activities for the kids during this holiday week? Is there anything I need to do in advance so I don't miss out on anything?

Any help here would be appreciated.

Hi, I haven't been to Vero before, but we are also going over Thanksgiving and I have been doing some, well okay, alot, of research, lol. Do a search on "Vero" here and you will come up with alot of info. When I called the resort several days ago, it was suggested that meal ressies be made pretty soon. Our family is just going to wing it, when we get there we will see what happens, if they have openings, great, if not, oh well, well cook or go somewhere else :)

You are on your own in regards to the wave runners, but I haven't heard anything about this before. I look forward to someone answering this question.

The temps appear to be averaging high 70's for this time period, so we'll see how darn cold the ocean will be, but I am sure it will not stop the kids. I know that they are running their usual children's programs, I haven't heard of them adding any special ones for the week. I know my kids are looking forward to swimming, mini golf, swimming, playing in the sand, swimming, bonfires, swimming, etc, etc.

I know on the DVC site, there is alot of info on Vero, as there is also alot listed in the newest member guide book. Now I just gotta find out when the character breakfast is.....

Take care and see ya there

We were at Vero in August. The resort did rent wave runners, but they only had one operating when we were there. The beach service is contracted out. You could contact Vero and ask them for the Beach Services number and talk with them about prices. These are the things I would like to see posted on the members website along with the activities available and activity schedule. Posting the bands that will be playing in the Green Cabin Room would be great.

In searching http://verobeach.com/ you can find other local activites. I believe I saw that Captian Hirams marina also rent's wave runners but I can't seem to find it.

The outlet mall is pretty nice. There is also a Theater and Movies. Video rental at Eb and Flos is nice. If you walk north to the public beach next door there is a little shop where you can get some ice cream and some above average food items, its not your typical convenience store. There is also a pizza shop, but it only has one table. Reservations for dinner I think can be made 30 days out, and there will probably be a seating in a large party tent outside, that seems to be semi permanent and air conditioned. Water temperature is questionable around Christmas when we were there last year. Last year it was cold, 65 which was a little chilly to swim. We were told the year before, it was in the ninties. So there is a little gamble in the winter months.

They have wave runners but you have to be 21 to use them. Just a heads up in case your kids want to try them out. Our sons were 18 last summer and weren't allowed to use them even if the parents signed the rental.

I thought the waverunner or runners were about $50 per 1/2 hour - but I would call to make sure they are available in late November - the water can be cold, but it is tolerable to some folks, meaning me, but not DW!

As I have thought more and more about our last trip to Vero at christmas, and it being a little too cold to swim, I cannot seem to think of a good reason while the pool wasn't heated to a more comfortable temperature.

A warmer pool in the colder weather would have made all the difference and really improved our trip. I guess I didn't take the time to approach the Vero Beach management and explain how much help a warmer pool during the colder weather (65) would have been appreciated for the Christmas holiday.
