We are looking at Vero Beach for Sept this year. Does Magical Express go there from the airport and if yes is it complimentary for this hotel like the WDW resorts? If not and we did not want to rent a car can someone suggest a good shuttle or transport service.

thanks

My daughter used to go to FL Tech in Melbourne, which is about 40 min north of Vero Beach. She used this shuttle service to get back and forth to school and airport and we never had any issues with them (NOT CHEAP THOUGH) :

If you can rent a car, it would be much better. As I recall, a roundtrip ticket PER PERSON to her campus and Orlando airport was about $150-$160 not including tip.

I would think you could rent a compact car and drive for less than that. The drive is about 90 min one way depending on traffic.

You would want to rent a car if you are going to Vero. It is a great resort but you do need a car if you want to go to the store, see things, or eat at the many great restaurants around there. I think being there without a car would be hard.

Sorry to hijack the thread - but...

Maria - I went to FL Tech too. What year did your daughter graduate? I was the class of 1993... I always flew into Melbourne airport when flying down to school.

What is the best way to get to VB? Fly in to Orlando and drive or West Palm Beach?

Hi lumpydj :)
My daughter is 19. She spent her freshman year there and she is now a sophmore at FSU. She loved being so close to the ocean....and the campus is beautiful....but it was so small and quiet. She said it was like a "ghost town" on the weekends. Being from PA, she felt so isolated there. She transferred to FSU for a more active and lively campus but still remains friends with many at FL Tech (she has visited the campus twice since Sept to hang out with friends and a couple have driven to FSU to visit her).

We tried flying in and out of Melbourne but the airfare was always higher and NEVER a direct flight to Philly. Southwest out of Orlando cannot be beat for flight times and airfare to Philly. Delta out of Melbourne would switch her flight times around at the last minute and she'd have 3-4 hour layovers. One time she was due to fly out of Melbourne at 9:50 am. Delta gave her 48 hours notice that she was now switched to a 6:15 am flight ! Kind of ticked us off and Delta did that to friends of ours who were vacationing in WDW too. They had a 7 pm flight back to Philly on their last day and Delta switched it to 10 am---thus, essentially, they lost their entire last day in Disney World. They had plans and all. So that is the main reason we utilized Orlando airport most of the time. She was a marine bio major at FL Tech. And the shuttle I mentioned was the best option I could find getting her to and from MCO to the Melbourne/Vero area.

My vote is for Orlando airport as I stated previously for the following reasons :

More varied flight options and fares AND much less chance of getting flight times switched. My daughter always seemed to have Delta change her schedule around at the last minute. But for proximity---Melbourne is the best for the Vero Beach. We actually stayed at Disney's VB while daughter had her week-long freshman orientation at FL Tech. Melbourne airport is probably about 40-45 min drive at most from VB ? Orlando airport is closer to 90 min from VB.

I agree....the resort is fairly isolated from most restaurants and shops without a car.

Vero Beach Resort would be very difficult without a car. It is a beachfront resort with a drive to visit attractions, shopping, downtown, etc. There is lots to do there, but would be very confining if no transportation.

We last stayed at Vero in June of 2008 and absolutely adore the resort. Wish I was going back soon..sigh. :)

We always rent a car on disney vacations - Orlando or Vero Beach. It is cheaper than using a limo, and much more convenient then using a shuttle. We use those deals where you get off the plane, walk to your car, and just present the paperwork on your way out. Hey - my husband is out of work. If there is a good need for a shuttle between Orlando and Vero Beach, maybe we should move out there and start a business.
