Vero Beach - BIG let down

Just got back from a quick stay at Vero. I treated my mother (who is interested in buying the DVC), Grandmother and DD to an overnight stay at the resort! I was really disappointed to say the least! First, my room was not ready until 6:45!!! We ate both lunch and dinner at Shutters. Lunch was very expensive and the food was just OK- dinner was horrible!!! It took 1 hour after getting seated to get our meal (which came out cold and the seafood was sandy). The manager let us choose another dish which came out 1/2 hour later and was just as bad!!! Still very expensive! I did notice many empty tables (Sat. PM) I guess others knew better. Room-service for breakfast the next am was ice cold but by that time we were starving we had to eat it!
I usually don't complain and am pretty easy to please but I will not be going back to VB anytime soon! Would rather travel the extra distance and stay at Disney.

The only great meal we had there was a Sunday brunch at Sonya's. The rest of our on-site meals were just okay. To me,the food was pricey only because it was just okay. Aside from the food we thought the resort was great. We will stay there again-not for 9 days though- but not for the food.

I'm sorry to hear you had such a bad time :( I enjoyed my stay and dinners there a year ago. I can't imagine things going downhill so fast.

Sorry to hear about your stay at VB. You didn't say if you were a DVC member. If you were , you had a right to be in your room by 4:00 pm. You should of asked to speak to a Manager.

Also, it is hard to judge a resort on a 18 hour stay. The problems you had at the restraunt, are in-excuseable, but that can also happen at any WDW restraunt also.

We have had good experiences with the restraunts on site, but there are also many more choices

with in a 15 minute drive also.

"you had a right to be in your room by 4:00 pm"

Check in time is not BY 4:00, it is AFTER 4:00. But yes, 6:45 is WAY after 4:00 and is not acceptable. I certainly would have spoken to someone about that.

I too have found the food at Shutters to be just ok, and pricey. Other than that, I LOVE VB. It is my favorite DVC resort. Sorry you didn't enjoy your stay.

"Vero Beach, a big let down":earseek: :earseek: :earseek:

I'm sorry. I imagine you probably hit in on an off day. We always find the food at Shutters to be wonderful and served fast.

May I ask what type of room you stayed in? Did they apologize or anything for getting you into your room so late?

I assure you if you ever decide to give it another chance you won't be let down.

Every time we have had room service it was excellent.

Did you say anything to the server or call down to in-room dining when you discovered your food was cold?

Again, I'm sorry things didn't work out well for you. The staff at Vero Beach are usually very eager to correct anything that may be wrong and I'm sure they would have bent over backwards for you.

If you ever do go again let us know how it goes.

Sorry you had such a rotten time.:( Very uncharacteristic. What items did you have? Did you speak to a manager afterwards? Write a polite letter explaining your problems. Checking into a room that late is unacceptable. Did they give you a reason? I know last summer someone flooded out the studio next to our 1 BDR on the 3rd floor. The resort was full and a family could not check in until after 1O PM (after Disney replaced the carpeting and checked for water damage) What else didn't you like about the resort?
OK Nick. Where did you get the burger smilie?:)

It's too bad that the food soured you on the whole resort. I love VB. Stayed there for a week, and found it to be both breathtaking and relaxing. Ate some meals on the balcony of the bar on the second floor. It was one of the most beautiful sights I have ever seen.

I, too, had slow service once at the restaurant there. I always found the food to be good, though.

My family had a great 5 night stay at VB in November, however, we had all our meals in our 2 BR villa. We had 5 A and 1 C.

The food at Vero has been the one thing that just has never been right for me. I think Shutters is a nice setting with terrific staff but the food just doesn't appeal. I had one "okay" meal at Sonya's and one very bad meal with special guests. I'll stick with the great chicken fingers at Bleachers. ;)

That said, I absolutely love everything else about Vero.....heck, I'd move in tomorrow if I could. :)

Sorry you had a disappointing trip. Not getting to really relax and enjoy coupled with the bad meals didn't really let you see the positive side to the resort. Of course, not everyone likes the same things. It could just be that it's not "your cup of tea".

I can somewhat agree with the food at Shutters not being the best and pricey at that. We haven't had a BAD meal there, neither have we had anything we would want to go back for.

We did however have a Father's Day brunch at Sonya's one year and for that I would go back.

Aside from that.....we love VB. It is great for relaxing and spending some good quality time together as a family. It is hard for me to get my family to "chill" out for any length of time and we usually go to VB for 3 days..........enough for us to enjoy before we head back up to the World for some craziness.

Sorry to hear you were disappointed!!

We have been lucky to have had the opportunity to stay at Vero Beach three times in the last few years. We liked it so much that we bought points there immediately after our first stay. I actually think that had I seen it first, it would have been our home resort. Having said that, I'm sorry to hear about your less than satisfactory stay there. We have had many wonderful, relaxing times at VBR. We always eat at Shutter's, too.
I hope you give it another try, and you find that your unpleasant experience was definitely the exception, and not the rule.
Good luck, and hope you have many more wonderful vacations.

I am a DVC member with property at the BWV and WL for the past ten years. We have gone to disney every year (at least once), for my honeymoon, and for reunions! Always had a magic time, always had great meals, and service! I expected VB to be the same. Another thing I forgot to tell you was I saw two infants in the pool without swimmers diapers! I have an infant daughter and bought the diapers at the rental stand. The rule was not inforced.

I have to tell you that I am from the Jersey Shore and the beaches here cannot be beat! Yes! VB was beautiful but I think I will stay at the other properties instead!
