This weekend I saw Vern on Trading Spaces Family. Anyone have the scoop on why he was gone and why he is back?

Loved the baseball room he did. :)

I saw him too :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

He was/is one of my favorites on the show. I fell asleep before the end of it through:(

I love Vern! Too bad I missed the very end of the show, they'll probably show the episode again. I'm so glad Vern is back. :)

I followed Monkey boy's link to vernyip.com and found this post by Vern on the message board in February 2004.
Hey Folks!

I hope all has been well with everyone here! I've been really busy with the book and traveling to tape for the "Oprah" show and making appearances.

As many of you have already suspected, once the last three episodes I taped for Season Four air, I will no longer be part of future "Trading Spaces" episodes. Season Four is my last season with the show, and its been a true blast to be part of that organization. I am really craving new creative challenges, and I've found an amazing one with the NBC family.

My new show on NBC is called "Design Intervention" (tentative title) and we are now looking for dynamic homeowners who have a great story to tell about their incomplete home renovations, additions and attempts to make their lives better through their physical environment!

Unlike "Trading Spaces," the new show will focus on more than just one room. We are looking at the entire house, both inside and out, for dramatic entire home transformations!

Please check out the front page of my site to direct you to www.nbc.com for an application if you think we may be able to help you out and tell your story!

Thanks to everyone for sticking with me through everything!

You All Truly Rock!

Vern

I hope you like my site!!

I believe this NBC show is the program that helped renovate the home of the Gosselin's of Wyomissing PA who birthed sextuplets earlier this year at Hershey Medical Center.

As much as I would LOVE to see Vern back on TS, I suspect both shows (TS & TSF) shown on Saturday were episodes taped earlier in the season, but not shown until now. Ty has also moved on (Extreme Home Makeover) and he was in one of the shows too.

Hopefully I'm wrong.

I was on the Trading Spaces message board and one of the homeowners from Saturday's episode posted that it was taped over a year ago ...... and they still have the zigzag floor...

That makes sense.

I wonder why they show 10 Hildi episodes in a row, but hold back the Vern episodes?

I loved the bedroom he did on the Sat. show. It was very nice.

I was at a home show a few weeks ago and had the opportunity to see Vern (got his autograph and picture taken with him - whee!)

He said there were a few episodes taped last season that would be airing at the beginning of this season - I'm guessing that was them!

He also had some interesting info on how the show is run, and the outcome of the infamous "straw room" that Hilde did.

If I got Hilde for the job I would just die! I think that Vern is very classy and has great decorating sense. I also like Frank if I want a country look and sometimes Laurie (when she is on and not off on a wild hair!!)

Please, please share!!! What happened with the straw room??? I've always wondered if the homeowners REALLY hate it if they do a little redo before the leave.

I learned a lot from Vern at that show. Here's all the tidbits, including the update on the Straw Room.

- There are only a few of the "designers" on the show that actually have deisng degrees/backgrounds. Vern's background is architecture. Hildi's is.... finance/banking.

- They actually have less than 48 hours to complete the room, because they have to be ready for the reveal by around 3pm on the second day.

- They have a whole staff of people who help with doing the tasks, like the sewing.

- Vern almost always stays up all night working on his houses. He assigns the homework, says (for the camera) that he's going back to the hotel and then he stays all night working on stuff. When it gets really late he'll suggest to the homeowners that they might want to get some sleep, about (trying to remember the percentages) about 50% of the time both will stay up with him, 40% of the time one will stay up and the other will sleep, and 10% of the time they just say "great" and leave him to do all the work! Makes it difficult in the morning to say (for the camera) Wow, you did a great job with your homework.

- The homeowners sign a waiver that says that basically unless the show does same major DAMAGE, ie not design related, the homeowners have no recourse against the show. And the show basically does nothing to make bad designs up to them. Like in the straw room!

- For the straw room, Vern was at a home show earlier this year and a friend of the straw room couple was there. She said: It took basically a whole weekend to get the straw off the wall. The homeowners actually ended up selling the house, but it took a lot to get the room back into liveable condition. In total they spent $17,000 repairing the room!

LOL Jenn Lynn, my thoughts exactly but you still made me laugh!

What about the one where they put feathers on the walls? I would not agree to do that to anyone (well I might could think of 1 or 2 people but not a friend!)
I bet feathers weren't the only thing flying there!
