so our 2 year contract is up and from what I understand existing Verizon customers can still get a subsidized phone with a new 2 year contract. When I go on my Verizon account to get new phones & contract , it only has 2 options. Pay for phone monthly or up front. Do I have to go to store to get subsidized phones? Also does anyone know if iPhone 6 has been lowered to $99 yet or will it not go down until 6s is available next week? Thanks

I think it depends on the phone you are getting, some are not included in that plan. I got a Droid Maxx a few months ago under that plan.

If you are on the more everything plan currently, you can make payments on a phone. If you are the new different plan you can not. Not sure how accurate it is, but this is what the phone rep told me. I called because someone on here posted about their savings. My phone is two years old and they marked my bill down 50%, my son's 10% and did something to my husband's too. We now pay 68 less a month. :)

I called to see what kind of discount we could get and came away disappointed. We have another year on our contract and we could have saved $20 but we would have lots a few GBs of data. I'm actually going to go with the plan that gives us more data for the same price until that time.

My boss's wife knocked her phone into the pool on Friday and was able to upgrade to an iPhone 6 for $99, through Verizon. She said they tried to get her to do the iPhone 6 ($99) and an iPad Mini (another $99) and she'd have had to increase her monthly rate by $12. She already has an iPad, so she declined and opted to just get the phone and stay with her current plan.

You can definitely still get a phone on a two year contract. DS is at college, and wanted a new phone, so they were trying to sell him on X dollars per month for X amount of months at the Verizon Store. I logged in online, and the same exact phone was HALF the price if paid for up front with a two year contract. We're paying for part for his birthday/Xmas, and he can make monthly payments to us for the rest. Worth it to save $400!

It is crazy, though, that phones are SO expensive....

I was just in over the weekend and for our personal account (on the old plan) we were ONLY allowed to pay monthly or buy the entire thing up front. The upside was that we were also required to switch to the same plan that is $20/month per line vs. $40/month. All they really did was take out the $20/month that was going toward your phone and make it a separate charge, specifically tied to the device. The amount they have charged for the phones in the past was just the difference between $20/month and your phone's up front price. Now people who get the cheap or "free" phone can pay $5/month instead of subsidizing expensive ones.

Our business account had different rules. We were also only allowed to switch to the less expensive monthly rate, but we had to pay up front. The up front amount was much less though. My phone was $200 down with no monthly payment on the device... paying by the month on a personal account was around $27/month so using the business account was ~$450 less over the 2 years.
