So what do you think of Verizon following suit with the other carriers and charging you 30 bucks to upgrade your phone. Sucks don't it. I was also looking at their website and saw where they now have something for your dog!!!!!!!!!!!:eek: The dog thing makes me think that they are really getting desperate. I think these cell phone companies are not making hardly any money anymore on the minute usage anymore, so they must find the revenue somewhere else.

we don't have verizon for our cell phones but we do have the tagg service for some of our pets. I don't think they are getting desperate in fact the tagg system is great and we love it.

We have Sprint and Dh has his own plan, but it is on our combined bill and then he gets reimbursed. A perk through his company is that we get NO activation fees! :thumbsup2 $35 to activate your phone is ridiculous when all they do is push a button on the computer.

We got new phones about 2-3 weeks ago (DH got a new smart phone, I went from a feature phone to a smart phone) and we had no activation fees. :confused3

I remember when Verizon used to offer free activations if you bought online Friday through Sunday. No more! :P

I know alot of people were talking about leaving Sprint and moving to Verizon....but I despise Verizon and will do everything I can to NEVER go back to them. In my experience their customer service stinks! DH works for a company that has accounts with both Verizon and Sprint because not both are available in all the areas they use, so they need both. So we are eligible to get a discount with either or. Verizon will only discount the first phone line 20%. Sprint will discount the first TWO phone lines 25%!! And they have great rates on the third and fourth phone lines!! Plus night rates start at 7pm not 9 and we have FREE calls to ANY other Cell phone no matter which carrier that cell phone is with which is perfect for my teens! :thumbsup2 And they are the only ones with true unlimited data plans. I really don't know why people are going back to verizon especially now that they have started this. Sprint has bent over backwards with customer service for us! They have always waved the activation fees. You just have to wait until the first 30 days are up and then they will credit your account the cost if you ask. They always have for us. Never ever had a problem. Verizon is a pain in the butt!! When DH had emergency surgery last summer and I needed to change my payment dates around a bit because he went on S/T disability and we cut everything that wasn't necessary (got rid of house phone but kept cell since it was under contract, even got rid of internet) anyway I needed a few extra days because of dealing with so much stuff at the hospital etc...Sprint was GREAT! Said call us when you can we noted your account. Verizon was a PITA when I wanted to cancel the houseline. you know what? We never got another! We haven't missed it!! And I love not sending verizon that $48 a month for a phone we never really used anyway!! LOL But to each his/her own.... :rolleyes1

SPRINT cancelled the discount for the 2nd line (this was a month or so ago). You must be lucky but Sprint never bent over backwards for me. :P Kept on charging data for picture mail, but wouldn't cut that cost (when picture mail was included). Couldn't help me when every call I made at work or at home kept on being dropped. :P

We have Virgin mobile and I will never go back to Verizon or any other big name cell phone company!! We pay $42 a month and get unlimited web/text and 1500 minutes. I love them!

Just pulled out the bill that came the other day and checked and the discount is still there... Whew!! you had me worried there for a second! LOL!
Not sure what you are referring to about "when picture mail was included". We don't pay extra to send/receive pictures. :confused3 We never have.
Sorry they didn't do a better job working with you. :(

I worked in a Verizon call center for 2 years. The reason they only discount the first line is that the first line carries the bulk of the plan charges while the 2nd, 3rd and so on only pay $9.99 for the line.

Our 2nd line was NOWHERE near $9.99 a month! Actually the second line was my DH's line and he was the one who was eligible for the discount but my line was the primary account # as we added his. His line cost just as much as mine!! and third and fourth lines were $19.99 each not 9.99. I have old bills around here somewhere as proof. Sorry, Verizon rates suck IMO!

The OP is talking about an 'upgrade fee' (to upgrade your phone from example; iPhone 3G to an iPhone 4S).

Not an activation fee.

Yeah, stinks big time. We're with AT&T and it's now $36 for my DH to upgrade to a newer iPhone. It used to be $18.

Not sure how long ago that you had service with Verizon but additional lines with them are $9.99 now...plus a data package if your phone requires one. We've had service on multiple lines with them for years because they offer the best coverage in our area and we've never had an issue with their customer service.

I've been with Sprint for two years this past February. I guess it's the luck of the draw. I haven't had any problems with Sprint's customer service but had terrible luck with verizon. Sprint is SOOOO much NICER!! MY only complaint is when my blackberry acted up, the repair center wasn't so close. But they were SO nice there. They replaced it no questions asked! Didn't make me jump thru any hoops. They said it was very unusual to have the problem I did w/ a blackberry (I can't even remember what it was it's been so long ago) and later I had problems with two of my keys not working right. I don't buy the warranty. And i took it in to see how much it would be to get it fixed. the guy took it apart and cleaned it for me and asked me if i texted while I ate. I admitted that I was rather bad about that and he said I had alot of crumbs in my keyboard. and didn't charge me a dime for cleaning it out!!! He spent a good fifteen or more minutes cleaning my phone. I can only imagine what it looked like! :scared1: We have unlimited texting, unlimited data, free cell to ANY other cell no matter who the carrier, all calls after 7pm and weekends and share 1500 min all this on FOUR blackberries for $160 a month all taxes everything included. We NEVER go over on our minutes. No other cell phone company can come close to this. I've tried. So sprint will continue to keep our business. They even went so far as to price match best buy's deal on the phones when we bought our DD's Blackberry phones. BB had them for $1. and the mgr said just come see him at the store and he would match the price (even though they were selling the BB's in their store for $50) rather than us go to Best Buy to activate a sprint phone. then after the 30 day waiver time frame is up, they reverse the $30 activation fee for us too. To me, that's the customer service that is going to keep our business!! :thumbsup2

Once upon a time, Verizon did have secondary lines for $19.99. It was a premium plan that bundled text, data and VZ Navigator. At that time, you could still get the 9.99 lines like they have now. The previous poster must have chosen this more expensive plan over the standard $9.99.

I think the dog GPS is great! If I still had my fence climbing Hairy Houndini Siberian Husky I know I would get it!

I'm not crazy about the upgrade fee, either. But the other big 2 do it ..... So that's how it goes.

I just called sprint customer care. Gentlemen said that sprint has no "upgrade" but does have a standard activation fee of $36 bucks.

Is this new fee from verizon on top of the activation fee?

The crappy part about the new "Upgrade" fee, is that for smartphone users the logic behind the fee is confusing.

The fee is suppose to cover: transferring contacts, emails, voice mail setup, transferring apps, music, pics, videos to the new phone.

Well, my Android phone is tied to my Gmail account. So, when I log on to the new phone, it will AUTOMATICALY pull (from Google's servers NOT VZ servers) My contacts, and start AUTOMATICALY downloading my apps from the Google Play (Google app store). I can pug my phone into my laptop and transfer all the pics and videos or I can swap SD cards between the phones. My music is not stored on the phone because I use Play Music (google) to stream it from my account. I have yet to figure out why they even say voice mail setup since it is tied to the VZ account and not to the phone.

The worst part is, when you talk to the store reps, they are confused by how your contacts are automatically loaded on to the phone. They kept asking me if i want my contacts transferred. I swear a bag of rocks is more useful then 75% of VZ employees. Now there are VERY good VZ employees, i have had the pleasure of interacting with them but i don't go into the VZ store any more.
