Verizon- saved a little money

DH is on Verizon. He had unlimited talk and 250 texts for $74.99 (no smart phone). I looked at the Share Everything plan and moved him to that with unlimited talk, unlimited text, and 300 MB data (which he won't use) for $70.

So now he doesn't have to worry about his text allowance, which he has gone over a couple of times, and we saved $5.

I looked at adding the girls and me, but at $30/additional line, it's still cheaper to do Tracfone for us light users.

So you like Tracfone pretty well then? My ATT contract is up in October, and I'm going to make some major changes. My husband has a work phone now, and my daughter will be getting her own plan (married now). That leaves me and my parents. My dad uses his phone very little so a Tracfone could work well for him.

I'm looking at the unlimited Straight Talk plan for me. Not sure about my mother yet.

Yes. DD13, my sister, my mom and dad, SIL, and I are all on Tracfone. With a triple minute phone, you can get a one-year card ranging in price from $99.99 to $199.99 and get between 1200 and 4500 minutes. This last time I got the 4500 minutes for $199.99 I think, and should have enough leftover minutes that I can get a smaller card the next time. Even at $199 per year, that's only $16.67 a month. If you can get by with the $100 card, it's only $8/month.

I like the annual service cards because then you only have to worry about reloading once a year. It's pretty easy to do online.

The part that can be not easy is transferring your minutes and phone number to a new Tracfone when you decide to get a new one. You can do it online, but I almost always run into problems. And a lot of the time lose some minutes- but I've decided I'd rather lose a small amount of minutes than have to call in to customer service. When I've had trouble, I've been able to resolve it by logging in to Tracfone and it will have a link to click by the picture of my new phone to resolve the issue. That is my only complaint with Tracfone is the hassle of trading phones.

DH would never get along with Tracfone- he frequently burns through 2000+ minutes a month! But for me and many of my family, it's a good deal.

Definitely would work for my dad. I had looked into the triple minute thing, and that should work well. It wouldn't work for me or my mother though. The one thing I really hate to give up is the free cell to cell calls. We use a LOT of minutes that way.
