Verizon iPhone contract up alt monthly plans

Call Verizon and see what they'll give you. Don't go to a store - they are usually contractors, call.

We have five smartphones, two on contract and three off and pay about $235 a month.

I have 3 smartphones on page plus - two on their $30/month plan (with a small discount) and one on their $10 every 4 months card. So my cost for 3 smartphones is about $60. The two $30 plane include 1/2 gig of data each, which is more than enough for our needs.

Hundreds of dollars for a smartphone a month. Yeah we passed on that. Republic Wireless. $25 a month unlimited talk, text, data. $10 a month unlimited talk, text no cell data if you go that route (wifi data still works). Works awesome for us

That's what we just switched DS to so he has talk/text but no data. He's almost always at home or school so there is no reason he needs more than wifi. He loves his phone and it got great reviews online. I love that we can change his plan though. We are going to MIL's this weekend and will bump up his plan so he can have data in the car for the 6 hr drive and over the weekend.

This was a great article that helped me compare different pay as you go carriers for anyone who is shopping. OP - it depends on if your parents are set on iphones, there are lots of different smartphone options and plans.

Thanks for so much information!
I came to realize that my problem is not my cell usage, but my adult son. He allows the dgs to use the data when in the car. I am second questioning my using the Edge plan for Dd's iPhone. I though it was a nominal increase to have the smart phone instead of purchasing another iPod 64 g.

So I can decrease by getting ds to evaluate his data use or find another means. Also, dump the Edge, get dd another IPod, and pick up pay as you go minimal data package for myself and dh dumb phone. I did have an 18% discount when working full time! now retired the plan gives me only 8%.

I wonder if they have AARP discount. I've been with Verizon 9 years.

Yeah my wife and I both have one thru them. A couple of people at work just switched too.

I have had Virgin mobile no contract phone for 2 yrs. I have the $45 a month for unlimited data and text and get 1200 minutes of talk time. If you get the top up cards from Target and use your 5% discount comes in under $43.00. Love my Supreme phone which I got for $149.00 from Virgin. Has a 13mp camera, large screen, great graphics.

Just one thing that I haven't seen anyone else mention -
If you do choose to leave Verizon, you will have to get new phones. Verizon phones are specially designed that they can only be used with Verizon. Theoretically you may be able to unlock them, but from what I understand, it's difficult.

After over 10 years with Verizon, we moved to T Mobile.

BEST thing ever.

We were paying $224/mo for 3 smart phones. Now paying $220 with 5 smart phones (this includes cost of new iphone, Galaxy 4 and 3 mid-line phones).

Verizon would not help us get any discounts. They would not budget on letting my son who was moving out of state for college upgrade 10 days early. Just got so sick of no customer loyalty. Glad some of you were able to get loyalty discount.

Best thing with T-Mobile is WiFi calling! We don't get cell service in the house and now with the T-Mobile Wi-Fi the cells actually work in our home.

We just switched to TMobile after a long time with Verizon as well. I am thrilled with Wifi calling--our Verizon phones were useless at home. Basically, we're paying $200 a month or so. We tried for cheaper, but I ended up returning a low end phone and upgrading--Tmobile was very nice about it and didn't even charge me the restocking fee. So we're paying the same for Tmobile as we did with Verizon, but we have more lines, 3 high end smart phones instead of 2 older ones, more data, insurance on all phones, and we can actually use the phones at home.

My Verizon is up,so sick of $300 a month for three smart phones and one voice only. After the contract is up, what are the options if any exist to a monthly plan. Hoping for something my Verizon phone can use for $50 a month.
Is it possible?

Page Plus Cellular is the answer to everything you're looking for!

We switched from Verizon to T-Mobile also. Our phone bill is $100 (plus taxes and fees) for four smart phones. Plan is unlimited talk and text plus 10 gigs of shared data. My two sons purchased their phones on ebay and have been very happy with them. My DH and I switched to LG phones that I talked T-Mobile down to $24 each for (list price was $250). They have worked perfectly for us.

We are saving more than $160 per month by having switched. Verizon offered us no discount when I called and asked them. So much for customer loyalty.

We're trying to figure out something for our cell phones right now too.

Currently with verizon for years, we have 3 lines which gets 700 minutes of shared talk, unlimited texts. DH and I have dumbphones, our ds has an iphone with 2gb data per month. For these 3 lines we pay $160 a month and that is WITH our 20% off employee discount. DH and my phones are terrible pieces of junk, dumbphones in the pure sense. We were eligible for upgrade months ago.

I see people saying they have 4 smartphones for $160 a month, how is that happening?!?

I'm actually paying less than that-att is 160 for 4 lines with 10 gb of data and unlimited talk and text and then I get the 20% discount through my employer.

poop. how do I get that? When I talked to at&t they said it was $160 before all taxes and fees and with those it would be another $40 per month so $200. ew.

I have a tmobile 5 person family plan. All lines have unlimited talk and text plus 1gb data (not pooled) with no overage fees. With a recent promo I actually get 2.5gb data per line no overage fees until Jan 2014 My monthly bill is $110 plus tax/fees which is slightly under $130. I have the ability to add a 6th line for $10 more a month plus tax/fees so under $150 for 6 lines (unlimited talk, text and at least 1gb data per line with no overage fees)

How is coverage with t-mobile though? I've heard bad things. I checked the map in my area and it says good/excellent for their network but I also know someone in my area with t-mobile who can't make phone calls inside their work building and making phone calls inside their house is 50/50.

t mobile was horrible where I am- couldn't even get service in my house! When I traveled there were so many places that I would have no signal with t mobile too.

7 gigs of data!!!! :upsidedow

Wow! Yes, you DS could def. find a way to reduce that!

I, too, am interested in finding a way to reduce our bills but Verizon just has such good coverage! We can go up into the mountains and still have good coverage with verizon. I'm allergic to honey bees and always need to stay close to a phone in case I get into trouble. Can't take a risk with bad coverage.

I wonder what carrier uses verizon towers?

We have 2 good choices here with great coverage, US Cellular or Verizon. At&T and TMobile have terrible coverage around here. We have 3 iphones on Verizon sharing 6 gigs of data and unlimited talk and text.

With taxes and fees, we pay about $220 a month, which comes out to about $70 a phone.

Same here. I don't have any great coverage issues in my area. They gave me a signal booster for my home at one point, which while I have plugged in, we mainly use the WiFi. I was not offered the 6th line when I just changed to this new plan. I have asked previously to no avail......
