I am honestly so confused about the differences between the iphone and the droids....can anybody give a basic explanation or provide a link??
This is specific to Verizon's version of the iPhone...
iPhone runs Apple's operating system called iOS. Droids are phones that run Google's Android OS. Verizon also sells Android OS phones that do not have a Droid name. Droid phones tend to be the higher powered options, but not always true.
Both operating systems can do very similar tasks, email, web, text, video chat, music, etc.
The iPhone only uses 3G for data, while Android phones potentially also use 4G for data. Not all phones support 4G, and you will pay more for the higher speed data that brings. For comparison sake, 3G could download an MP3 in about 30 seconds while 4G could do it is about 5 or 6 seconds.
The iPhone requires you to connect to iTunes to do everything, from importing your movies and music to basic updates. Android phones allow you the move your files onto your phone using any method you want, be it cut and paste, drag and drop, or automatic sync using programs similar to iTunes. Updates happen automatically in the background for Android without needing a computer. Updates for iPhone and their apps require you to connect to another computer that has an internet connection.
iPhone can't use flash on websites. Android phones can.
iPhone requires you to buy either 16 or 32 GB of storage. Android phones come with 8 to 32 GB of storage, and you can always add additional storage yourself for a few dollars with a card.
iPhone can't replace the battery, or even remove it. Android phones can.
iPhone only allows you to purchase apps that Apple has approved and censored. Android allows you to purchase apps from their market, or download it directly from a company. You also can have your purchase refunded, iPhone will not refund any purchases made even if in error.
There are a million other differences, the big ones are seen as strengths or weaknesses depending on how much you love/hate Apple. The facts above are the issues that aren't impacted by your personal feelings.
