Verizon gets the IPhone!!!

I'm holding out for the I-Berry-Droid myself.

Until then, I'll stick with my old faithful:

Bonorific, I didn't know we could get it for one more year. We'll enjoy it one last time then.:thumbsup2 Are they raising the prices on the data plans?

You still have to wait for the NE2 announcement. They could still take away existing customers benefits, but by doing so your contract would immediately be void and you could leave without paying any sort of early termination fee. You could then signup for a new contract (without New Every 2) and get new customer prices. Basically let everyone upgrade Jan 17. It seems highly unlikely Verizon would allow that to happen, but nobody knows for sure. For now, assume you can finish off your contract and get the $50 but you will never get it again. New customers are definitely not getting New Every 2.

Data plans for 3G changed at the end of October. Data rates for 4G have not been announced, and have specifically been avoided whenever brought up. Keep in mind the CEO has already said 4G will bring more expensive data plans, with tiers for service, either tied to speed or amount of data. To get close to what you get today for $29.99 will cost more.

as far as the NE2, I logged into my account to see when I would be eligible to upgrade to an Iphone and it says in July. My current phone was purchased in November of 2009. So as of now they are still saying I can upgrade to the Iphone early.

Now also though they have been sending me text messages daily saying that I could upgrade to a NON-Iphone phone as of today.

Does anyone know if you switch to verizon if you can keep your number? We currently are with US Cellular(dark ages I know:rotfl:)and we've been waiting for verizon to get the iphone now that they do we will switch but can we keep our old numbers from US Cell?

Also when is the newest iphone coming out I've seen this summer and now I've seen April? Any guess??

Sure can!!! DD came onto our plan from another network and kept her number.

I don't get it either. I love my Droid and can't even begin to understand the hoopla! I just don't understand the whole thing at all. My Droid is a great phone with tons and tons of features, functions and apps.....I don't understand the consumerism that drives people to constantly need some new gizmo just for the sake of having a new gizmo :confused3

I'm sorry, but your post cracks me up. You don't consider your Driod "a gadget", but you do an iPhone?:lmao:

To be clear, the Iphone has about 300,000 apps available vs. about 100,000 apps for Android phones (and I'd guess that a lot more are Free as well)

Anyway, you can't do bad by either type of phone, but IMO the Iphone is slightly more refined at this time.

I consider it a phone that DH bought for me. I use it for calls, email, facebook, camera....all things I could do on a much less sophisticated phone, but I had no choice in the matter as I wasn't with him when he bought it, and really didn't care what he picked. Yes, hilarious....

Actually, I guess I would consider it a gadget but my point was I didn't run out and buy it simply because I needed the next big newest and best gadget. THAT is the part that I just simply don't understand. And, to head it off at the pass, no, I don't understand it in my DH either.

I don't think I would switch from a my Droid to an iPhone until the iPhone had Flash compatibility, but I think that may be never.

I just hope that all of the people switching over to Verizon don't slow the network down too much.

:rotfl: at the number of phones Verizon has which are *better than* the iPhone... why all the hoopla 'bout the iPhone then? lol

No one is asking you to foot the bill for their new phone. I've wanted an Iphone for years but didn't want to deal with At&T. I'm excited about the change and can't wait to get my new toy.

I guess I'm real "old school" then because I currently do not have a data plan. I only use my cell phone to make calls or send texts. I'm just not sure that I would get much use out of an IPhone or Droid. I won't be lining up to get the IPhone now. Maybe later though.

But your earlier post said "My Droid is a great phone with tons and tons of features, functions and apps." I have to admit, I thought the same thing I did Disneyland_Mama did when I read your post... you're bragging on all of your phone's functions, and then acting all holier-than-thou and mocking people for buying a gadget? Seriously? :rotfl: The fact that you come back later and say "Oh, I don't USE those functions and I don't even care that they exist" doesn't mean you weren't bragging on them in the first place. :confused3

Anyway, like someone said earlier, competition is good, and I don't know why anyone cares about the phone other people choose to buy. If you're happy with your phone and your carrier, lucky you. If not, you have one more choice than you had last week. Lucky you. :thumbsup2

Yes, you can. Just don't disconnect your old phone until the switch it done. Verizone made it very simple.

I am honestly so confused about the differences between the iphone and the droids....can anybody give a basic explanation or provide a link??

I am honestly so confused about the differences between the iphone and the droids....can anybody give a basic explanation or provide a link??

This is specific to Verizon's version of the iPhone...

iPhone runs Apple's operating system called iOS. Droids are phones that run Google's Android OS. Verizon also sells Android OS phones that do not have a Droid name. Droid phones tend to be the higher powered options, but not always true.

Both operating systems can do very similar tasks, email, web, text, video chat, music, etc.

The iPhone only uses 3G for data, while Android phones potentially also use 4G for data. Not all phones support 4G, and you will pay more for the higher speed data that brings. For comparison sake, 3G could download an MP3 in about 30 seconds while 4G could do it is about 5 or 6 seconds.

The iPhone requires you to connect to iTunes to do everything, from importing your movies and music to basic updates. Android phones allow you the move your files onto your phone using any method you want, be it cut and paste, drag and drop, or automatic sync using programs similar to iTunes. Updates happen automatically in the background for Android without needing a computer. Updates for iPhone and their apps require you to connect to another computer that has an internet connection.

iPhone can't use flash on websites. Android phones can.

iPhone requires you to buy either 16 or 32 GB of storage. Android phones come with 8 to 32 GB of storage, and you can always add additional storage yourself for a few dollars with a card.

iPhone can't replace the battery, or even remove it. Android phones can.

iPhone only allows you to purchase apps that Apple has approved and censored. Android allows you to purchase apps from their market, or download it directly from a company. You also can have your purchase refunded, iPhone will not refund any purchases made even if in error.

There are a million other differences, the big ones are seen as strengths or weaknesses depending on how much you love/hate Apple. The facts above are the issues that aren't impacted by your personal feelings.

What's to understand? Some people enjoy gadgets just like some people enjoy seeing new movies, reading new books, listening to new songs... just like any hobby. I love gadgets, but my budget doesn't allow for me to buy things right when they come out. I guarantee I would if I could! But I also don't run out to see movies or buy extras for my home or fancy purses. What's wrong with enjoying what we enjoy?

At any rate, I'm looking forward to the day that I can make the switch to Verizon so I can get out of this AT&T hell! And, yes, I love my iPhone.

I have had an iPhone for over a year now with AT&T, and I have found Apple's customer service to be second to none. AT&T's customer service is certainly lacking, and the only thing anyone in a store wants to do is sell you a new phone or accessories. Luckily we have an Apple store close by. My phone died when it was 1 month out of the 12 month warranty. The tech at Apple determined that there was corrosion where the charger goes, and the battery was not charging. They did give me a brand new phone. If you have a broken phone, and it IS your fault, you will not have to pay full price for a new phone if you do it through Apple, and surrender your broken one. The most you'll pay is the contract price. Again, AT&T doesn't like you to know this, and I'm sure Verizon won't be so quick to share it either.

The biggest difference I've seen between AT&T and Verizon is that with my iPhone, I can talk on the phone and do data at the same time. Verizon does not have that capability, and will not on the new iPhones. Not really a deal breaker for most, but still an inconvenience.

I am glad that I got in under the old contract pricing and have unlimited data for 29.99 a month. Hopefully AT&T will go back to offering that again now that they have some competition with the iPhones.

I don't get the hate for iTunes and Apple's proprietary information, and screening Apps available for sale through iTunes. It's just quality control, in my opinion. Their Apps, for the most part, ARE better quality and more widely available. I do HATE their refusal to accomodate Flash. It's the only complaint I have about my phone.
