Verizon gets the IPhone!!!

I am by no means a cell phone expert, but DH has the Droid X, a good friend of ours has the iphone 4 (I think), and none of us sees the other as being the better phone:confused3. So to me, it's basically 6 of one, and a half dozen of the other.

Non-iPod smart phones can't sync with iTunes without third party software.

I am a Verizon customer with an upgrade due in April, guess I will need to decide between the Iphone and Droid. I understand Droid's have more apps than Iphone and you can replace the battery easily with the Droid. Tell me more benefits of the Droid vs. Iphone!

Thanks

I think it is like the Nook vs Kindle, Coke vs Pepsi and McDonalds vs Burger King debate! What one person feels is a benefit someone else doesn't.

The iPhone can only do slow 3G data, and you can't talk and do data at the same time. Bionic has super fast 4G data, and can surf and talk at the same time.

But you only get 4G speed if you are in an area where Verizon has upgraded to 4G.

Exactly!
And let me just point out again, 4G is on different towers. Verizon only has those in big cities, not rural areas. Eventually, yes it will be spread out to other areas. But that won't happen for a few years.

I've been a Verizon customer for years, but I won't be running out to get the IPhone just jet. I don't like the idea of paying $30 a month for the data plan.

I was disappointed to hear that Verizon is doing away with their new phone every 2 years policy. We are due for new phones in March. Of course, this new policy takes effect January 16th, before our renewal date in March.:sad1:

The Droid has more free apps than the iPhone- Angry Birds, for example. And it's easier to customize. I believe once you update your iPhone you have no way to jailbreak it.

For the poster who was talking about the new Droid Bionic, which is out already. Everything you said is great and true but look on a map and see where 4G works. Basically in big cities, not rural areas. DH works in Manhattan so it would be fine there, but not where we live. 4G works off different towers.

The Droid Bionic is not out. It was announced, but is not available. As for 4G, I work for a company that happens to make cell phones and 4G "towers". I work on the 4G side of things. Verizon has 4G in 25 cities today, but will have 100% coverage by 2013. The reality is by the end of this year the vast majority of you will have 4G.

:scared1: I hadn't heard that! Really?

If you don't like paying $30 a month, you aren't going to like what you will have to pay shortly. $30 for unlimited data will be a bargain compared to what you will have to pay shortly.

As for New Every 2, you lose the benefit for new contracts after Jan 16. So when you upgrade in March you will get your New Every 2 benefit, but that will be the last one.

I was really hoping to upgrade to the iPhone but there were so many mixed reports. I went ahead and got the Droid Incredible. I got it free at Best Buy right at the end of the year (2010).

I love it! I saw today the 2/10/11 date and thought oh well.

I have a lot of friends with iPhones and my DH has a Droid. I've heard a lot of complaints for the iPhone.

I wouldn't want to pay the $200 for the phone anyway. Maybe in 2 years i'll upgrade but for now i'm really happy with my little and LIGHT incredible! the iPhone is like a brick compared.

It's exactly how I feel. It the iPhone name that's reeling people in when the Incredible is really just that, incredible. I have an iTouch, and I play with my friends iPhones all the time but my Incredible is just so much better. I just hope have a comparable selection for me when my renewal is up.

I have the regular Moto Droid right now, my contract will be up in a couple months. I was thinking about switching to the IPhone - does anyone know if you can program/customize it like you can the Droid?

The BIG loss you will have if you move from the Droid to the Iphone is the ability to multitask while on the phone. As example, while you can open the web browser while on your Moto while on the phone, you won't be able to do that on the Verizon version of the iphone. You will also be limited to Apple approved apps (the big benefit of the Droid platform is the fact it is open and hence attracts a wider range of innovation).

Sorry, I thought it was out already!
For the record my husband along with 10 other family members of mine all work for Verizon, landline, not wireless. I am just relaying info I get from them. Also, trust me my little town will never have 4G ;). We don't even have Fios!!

Hmmm ...I was waiting for Verizon to get the iPhone but I was hoping that it wouldn't be CMDA. I love being able to talk and surf at the same time (like when using Google maps). I guess maybe I'll just try to hold out until July and get the new version from AT&T

Looks like a step forward with the iphone announcement, and a step back with the New Every 2. Should be interesting to see how much VZW restructures everything, icl. data plans.

I got the Droid Incredible back in Oct, and I too, am extremely happy with it. I can't see "upgrading" to an iphone when my Incredible already does it all.

You will be in luck. Here's why. Getting Fios requires a massive investment in infrastructure, and small towns don't have enough people to justify the expense of putting it in. 4G was designed to save companies money. The equipment is relatively cheap, installs where ever an existing cell tower (or similar structure) exists. The capacity of 4G is designed to lower costs. It is expensive to run 3G data and voice. Companies want you to go to 4G, it will save them a fortune in bandwidth. They can get more people on 1 4G site, with lower costs, and eventually shut down the expensive 3G sites.

If you have 3G, you will get 4G. If you don't have 3G, you may get 4G. If you live on a boat in the ocean, you won't get 4G.

Yes, it's true. I saw it on the news yesterday. If you google it, you will probably see it on the web.

Bonorific, I didn't know we could get it for one more year. We'll enjoy it one last time then.:thumbsup2 Are they raising the prices on the data plans?
