When i started whining for BLT last night (and DH glumly showed me our stock portfolio's current status:scared1: ); he gently suggested that if really want to add on, perhaps i sell one of our other 'babies' .

Really don't think i will, yet just to make sure i've got this straight:

I bought original WLV thru TSS, then added on afterwards (same UY) thru DVC.

Can i sell one or the other & still retain membership or must I keep the initial purchase?popcorn::

You may sell either one and still retain your DVC membership. They are separate contracts. You only need to keep one to continue your membership.

Oh, very good question. I learn so much on these boards. So not to jinx myself but this is another good reason to do add-ons in smaller bunches right?

Yes.

A lot of people have original contracts w/small add-ons that end up selling the master and keeping just the add-ons as kids leave home etc. and the number of points needed goes down.

Yes, that is why after selling 1000 points (in various packages ranging from 100 - 170) I will never buy more than 100 point packages, they are the easiest to sell and you get the most value if the situation warrents it.

We have done this too! Ours was by accident though...
Our first purchase was by resale for 100 points and our add ons have been 60 and 100 points.

I had read this board a long time before we purchased and the idea of getting smaller contracts was good advise. We have to sell because of illness. Our contracts are 80/25 at HHI and 100/25 at BCV. I am thinking/hoping to keep the 25 BCV to keep my hand in DVC we will see.

One question is whether selling to replace points at another resort is worth the $20-30 or so per point loss to do so. My opinion is not for most people and situations if home resort is the only issue. I'd say better to take the dollars one would lose and do a smaller add on. The only realistic exception I can think of would be if one is downsizing at the same time. Now if the price difference were a LOT less, I would likely feel differently.

im a 'newbie' only bought in early '05:goodvibes far above what many purchased their DVC portfolios, still im very happy with the membership; especially watching the rate structure continue to escalate @ the resorts.

appears as though I could recoup or make a profit on our initial resale & def on the smaller BWV contract if I decide to 'challenge the market' (as they tend to go for top dollar & quickly on the resale markets)...of course there r no constants in this market:rolleyes1

Initially contracted for 1 200 point contract...

Due to wonderful advice of Dis folks, several recommended doing 2 100 point.
1 master and 1 add on..Better re-sale options.

Sad that my guide couldn't have recommended that:rolleyes: :cheer2: :cheer2: , but thanks to all Dis folks that had some great insight as always!:cheer2: :cheer2:

I have sold five small contracts, four at VB and one at HH. I then bought three 25 point extended contracts at OKW. Because all the contracts I sold were completely stripped and all the OKW contacts I bought were fully loaded I have noticed very little change except money in my pocket and greatly reduced member fees. :yay:

What you bought for has no bearing on this issue. The questions is what you could sell for vs what you could replace those points for and that was the dollar amount I referened. You only make a profit if you sell and don't rebuy.

i understand what u r saying, however; i'm also interested in purchasing BLT (even @ a higher rate than what i would gain in resale now)

i feel it will command a higher resale price 20 or so years down the road (when we would likely divest) due to probable longer contract length & popularity.

one of the reasons i was interested in buying sep contracts in the 1st place was the ability to pass them onto my DSs...who now don't seem interested in acquiring them sigh
