I heard there are two types of verandahs. Metal verandahs and regular verandahs. Is there a lot of the metals ones? We are booked in a CAT 6 GRTY and I do not want the metal verandah. I was wondering what people thought about both. Again thanks for the info. THANKS ALOT!!:D

Hi,

According to page 73 of "Passporter's Field Guide to the Disney Cruise Line,"

All staterooms in categories 7 and up have a private verandah. Aheavy, sliding glass door opens to reveal a deck as wide as your stateroom. Dividers offer privacy from your neighbors and the deck overhead protects you from most of the elements. The sliding door has a child-proof latch that can be difficult to open at first-the trick is to grasp the handle and pull hard without turning. Turn the handle horizontal to lock the sliding door. Two plastic/fabric chairs and a small table are on the verandah, along with an ashtray and two deck lights. The deck can be slippery and the railing can be sticky from salty, moist air. Most verandahs have a clear plexiglass-and-metal railing which you can see through, while some staterooms in the aft have a solid railing.

Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. How many cabins have the solid railing? I understand you can not see through the solid rails. I have little one and think it would be safer for them if we have a room with the clear plexi-glass so they can sit and see out. Otherwise, they would have to look over the solid metal. I do not like this at all. Are there alot of rooms with the solid metal in the aft? I wonder what is the chance of us getting this. I do not want this cabin. Thanks again for the info.

If I am reading my Passporter correctly (and remembering correctly!) the metal of Navigator's verandah's are Cat. 7. Cat. 6 are all the plexiglass verandahs.

If that isn't correct I know someone will correct me! Michelle?

If you go to Dave's site, click here http://www.dcltribute.com/ you will be able to see which verandahs have solid metal or plexiglass.

There ARE category 6 rooms with the metal verandah. I believe they are all located aft of the category 7 rooms on the ship. Barb should know...her all time favorite room is a category 6 with the metal verandah.

I have photos of both types on my website at www.castawayclub.com so you can see the difference. Ashley, you are correct...the metal verandahs are the ones past the navigators verandahs in the aft. Personally I love being aft, and stateroom 5650 (as far aft as you can get on deck 5) is my favorite. Like some of the other metal verandahs, it has a somewhat larger verandah due to the shape of the ship. Also, the metal verandah rooms tend to be very quiet because they are so far aft that there is little or no hallway traffic.

Thanks to all!! I went to the website and it was GREAT!!:D I still hope I do not get a metal one so the kids can look out. Again who knows maybe we will be UPGRADED.. Can only hope. Either way glad we are going.

What time is your party, Barb?!@

(In case I get a chance to stowaway for a few weeks, I'd like to have an invite!!!)

We had 3 rooms in the Aft section, Cat. 6 with metal verandahs. We were as far aft as you could go on Deck #6. It was nice & quiet, we loved it & will probably request those same rooms again. The room our handicapped friend had was huge along with a spacious verandah. It was our first cruise & I don't know if we could go into an interior room after having such a beautiful view. Has anyone ever had an interior room after a verandah one? Just wondering if the verandah kinda spoils you.:Pinkbounc
