Verandah or oceanview?

Fiance and i are looking into taking the NY to canada disney cruise in late Sept. This is our first cruise ever. Trying to decide if we should book the verandah or be fine with just an oceanview room?

Worried about it being too chilly and not using the verandah and its about 700-1000 more for the verandah room. It also would take us above the budget we had in mind for our honeymoon.

Some cruise the verandah is only a few hundred more and i would opt to do it at that price but for close to 1000 I would say definitely save the money. The oceanview rooms are very nice. They have a great window seat and a very large window so you have a great view of the sea still. In your case I'd go for the ocean view (and this is coming from someone who always sails in a verandah). We did the Canadian cruise out of NYC back in October and while we did use the balcony, it wasn't like Alaska or Norway/Iceland where you have lots of scenery in between ports - just lots of ocean. It was definitely on the cool side when we were out there, but not uncomfortable with a jacket. That said, we didn't spend hours on the balcony as we have on other cruises. We mainly spent time out there as we sailed into and out of port enjoying a bottle of wine because that's our cruise tradition. Though one time we really did enjoy it was the morning we sailed back into NYC. It was nice to not have to get dressed to go up on deck, though I'm sure the view was much better on deck.

If you are worried about the budget, I'd go for the ocean view and save the $$$ for something else - a cool excursion or maybe a second cruise!!

Have fun! We loved that cruise so much we have booked a 10 day version that goes all the way to Quebec City in 2018 (not Disney, though).

Congratulations on your honeymoon trip! With price being a concern, go ahead and take that money you would spend on a verandah and do something else with it, a nice excursion or a special dinner at Palo, the adults only restaurant. Years from now would you rather talk about the adventures you had, or the balcony you sat on? (I say this as a verandah snob). There are plenty of place on the ship you can stand and feel the ocean!

I admittedly did not search, but will that help with sailing on the Disney Magic?

It's going to be cold. I wouldn't pick a verandah unless it was less than 200$ more than OV.

We've done that cruise and would recommend the ocean view or a Navigator's Veranda that will give you fresh air but will also block some of the wind.

DVCs Member Cruise began on September 28 last year, and it was quite chilly! I sat on the veranda because it was there, but we would have been just as happy without it.

Another vote for Ocean View. Doesn't seem like you will be able to enjoy it with the cooler weather
and the money could be spent elsewhere to make magical memories.

If there's no kids and therefore don't need to hang out in your room, my suggestion is to save the money and do oceanview. And inside is also just fine. Our sentiment is that it gets us out of the room and using the ship. I've done 2 14 nights in an inside.

I always break it down into a per day price and even an estimated per hour price. So if you've got a 7 night cruise and it's an extra $700, then you're looking at an extra $100 per day. Break it down a little further. Let's say you spend 4 hours out there. That's $25/hour. Are you going to be getting $25/hour worth of enjoyment out there?

We have cruised with both ocean views and one cruise with a verandah and we've realized that we really only used it maybe an hour or two a day. If that.

So if the price were maybe a hundred or couple hundred difference, I might consider it, but more than that, it's just not cost effective. I'd rather use that money for other entertainment.

We prefer oceanview. The verandahs are small and we really never use them. You can find a nice spot on the top deck that is better. Oceanview gives you a great view and a ton of light in the room. Beware, oceanview rooms are popular and can be hard to get. So book early.

We always go verandah due to my husband needing air when in our stateroom due to sea sickness. Plus, we love to just sit out there and drink tea and/or coffee in the mornings.

Hmm.. NY will be very warm/even hot still and Eastern Canada should still be very warm late Sept, but not guaranteed. In SW Ontario where we are we typically have weather in the high 70's all of September and into October - sometimes it's downright hot still in the 80's but it's never cold. Nova Scotia and Newfoundland are cooler than SW Ontario but still I can't see it being very cold. I think you will be able to use your verandah for sure but more mid-day and not early in the morning or late in the evening. I have never sailed this itinerary though and from other replies it sounds like there isn't much to see, I would then also choose oceanview and save the $$.
